I will be playing a fun casual game of Catan while answering your submitted questions. If you submitted your questions and didn't see it in this game, don't worry.... I have more DAD episodes coming out soon to get to them.
If you want to help support the channel AND have your questions at the front of the list, please consider joining the KZitem channel membership (click join button above). All questions from channel members will go to the front of the DAD question queue.
Enjoy the game play and thank you for the support. If you are enjoying this, please don't hesitate to like the video and sub to the channel. We are going to keep going up and up!
Stay great everyone,
- DandyDrew
1:41 NJO - How to not tilt when playing Catan?
3:40 Danielle Vervloed - First, I'm really enjoying the content and especially the kind and chill vibes. It definitely elevates the game to me when I see players going about things respectfully and still seeming to have a great time.
I only have one question, would you be interested in expanding your playstyle/extending your teachings to other parts of the catan world? I'd love to see you play and hear your thoughts on seafarers.
5:00 Jesse Zochert - Is catan at its core a fundamentally flawed game? I love this game and I believe in skilled players winning due to skill and not luck. However, does optimal strategy rely on all 4 players attempting to play for their own win? If one player, for whatever reason, however subtly or unsubtly, decides they want to make another player lose or win, is that not always going to be an issue for catan?
6:55 Ben Hegge - Best Catan KZitemr! Have you ever thought to do a bronze to diamond series where you lose all placements and work your way to the top??
7:52 Dimitar Anastasov - My friends don't like when we play catan and I say someone is 9 points don't trade with him or focus him they say I'm breaking the game they are big noobs btw im winning like 4 out of 5 games should I stop and just let them win more? Have anyone ever had this problem of table talk
9:07 Timo Joosten - Can you explain when it is best to do a 'suboptimal' play that is better in a social perspective, and when it is best to play more egoistical?
11:11 Dhruv Jain - How do you use pacing to determine whether to play patiently (usually holding cards or dropping one road) or more aggressively (aggressive knight, a slightly worse deal for upgrading or popping a dev) ?
13:01 Shrevport Bliss - Are you Donkey Sins?
Edit: Also what are some of your favorite books?
14:50 StaticLemon VI - If you had to pick one resource to play without, which one would you choose? Obviously circumstances matter but all other things being the same, would you rather play without brick, sheep, wood, ore, or wheat? Does you answer change if the board is full of said resource? Or if the board has a scarcity of said resource?
16:12 M K - Don’t know if you know that, but I have been wondering why there‘s always an 11 in the middle of the board and some number pairs like 8 5 9 don’t happen at all
17:30 Fightingpaintball22 - Thanks for the content, Drew! I find that I am consistently targeted by friends from turn 1, i.e. embargoes, 2:1 trade offers, blocks, settle spots prevented. This is because I introduced my friends to the game and initially I was a lot better than them and kept winning- now they have largely caught up but they treat me in the same way. As you have been targeted similarly due to high winrate, what do you do to maintain a win condition and keep your hand actionable despite blocks?
19:50 Phillip Jungman - When playing OWS, the first challenge is obtaining the first road settle to expand to 3 settles. I have two questions around that.
1. Do I prioritize turning my first 2 settles into cities and then look to expand for my 3rd settle? Or do I slightly overpay at the start of the game to obtain my 2 woods and bricks needed to settle and then make cities after landing my 3rd settle?
2. When I play OWS, I always end up in a scenario where I have 2 sheep, 2 ore, and 2 wheat. I can never decide whether to pop once, pop twice, or hold for a city. How do I choose properly?
Thanks drew. 100k subs will be here before you know it!
23:12 InStinct - When you are reviewing a game, how do you identify key moments? What is your process on determining whether a decision was a mistake or not if we are not thinking outcome oriented?
27:15 Mathieu - Why Catan? There's so many other games now. If not Catan, then what else (game or other activity)?
