This is one of the two Bell 204 helicopters we used in our movie DANGER CLOSE dressed up as a 1966 RAAF UH-1B Iroquois (Huey's). The Bell 204 is the civilian version of the UH-1B and they were supplied by McDermott Aviation in Queensland.
We gave our Australian Army Armoured Personnel Carrier crews and one of our stills photographer a joy ride on the day we raised over $10,000 for veteran's charity Cam's Cause.
One of these two Bell 204's was a firefighting chopper and the other was brought out of storage and made operational.
Our Production Design team did an amazing job on the paint and accessories, and the Chief of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) gave us permission to use the actual tail numbers; A2-1020 and A2-1022 of the two Iroquois used in the Battle of Long Tan.
We even secured the real A2-1022 from the Coloundra RSL for all of the internal scenes in the Iroquois suspended from a ceiling and with a green screen behind. We fully restored this Iroquois and gave it back to the RSL in a better condition than we received it. It sits up on a pole in front of the RSL.
DANGER CLOSE opens in the USA in select Theaters, On Demand and Digital November 8. Is available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital in Australia December 4.
Starring; Travis Fimmel, Luke Bracey, Daniel Webber, Alexander England, Aaron Glennane, Nicholas Hamilton, Anthony Hayes and Richard Roxburgh.
