@@goutvols103 it's pretty ambitious, looking to buy a bandsaw mill in the spring sometime. It would be nice to be able to make my own lumber for my projects this year. My chainsaw mill would be to inefficient for the projects I want to do. The learning curve for it may take a bit to learn, but I think as time goes on I will get better and more efficient with it. It will definitely benefit the channel. So thank you again for the donation and supporting the channel.

Nice video. I noticed you had a number of scenes where you showed the wood stove burning with the door open. Maybe this was for the visual effect for the video. If not, the wood stove will heat better with the door closed. Burning with the door open is like burning a fireplace. The draft tends to suck all the warm air out of the room. I burned wood in my grid cabin in Vermont for 30 years. It often got down to -20 degrees F, or colder, in the winter. My small wood stove keep that cabin nice and warm during the coldest temperatures. However, it was insulated, which makes a huge difference. Just a thought on burning with the wood stove door open, which you may not do. Keep the good videos coming. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Matt! The stoves door being open is for visual effect, I really would have liked to have a glass front to it> Maybe I will upgrade it to one with a glass front to get that effect without having the door open. It is not open all the time. I will be insulating it better come spring time when the weather is better and I can remove everything from the interior. Will be a good project! Have you a favourite wood for kindling & generally all night burning. I live in the UK, worked for 30+yrs as a timber faller & sawyer, softwood as we call it, pine, fir, spruce etc goes for the housing building, best firewood is hardwood such as Ash, Beech, Oak, in our wood burner stoves we can keep them alight all night after filling stove upto the limit & damping them down, of coarse we very very seldom get it as cold as your country.

Thanks Andy! Yes, for kindling my go to wood is western red cedar. It lights up really easy and gets a fire going quick! It does not last last though, just lasting a little over what cardboard would! For the rest of the time the stove is going I use spruce and pine as it is plentiful and easy to get. Not much in the way of hard wood in this area, other than some birch! I make a fire outside for a couple of reasons, firstly it is a source of heat I can use right away to keep warm while the cabin is warming up and I use it for cooking. @@TheBushkateer That's awesome, I wouldn't think 2 inch thick wood walls would hold that much heat in.
@TheBushkateer
8 ай бұрын
@@chadford8500 the cabin itself with only 2x10's didn't hold heat in that well, having the air tight heater going all the time did keep it heated that warm, but if the stove died off it would get cold pretty fast. So this year I decided to put 2 inch insulation board covered with another 3/4 inch of boards and it seems to have helped out a lot with heat retention inside the cabin. I don't have to feed the wood heater as often and can maintain temperature in the cabin a lot better. Having said that, it has not gotten that cold this year yet (-17C the coldest so far), so will have to see when (or if) it gets really cold.
