Here is another code violation. The wire railings are creating a ladder, not a barrier. Where I'm from, horizontal balusters aren't allowed - even cable ones. They create a ladder for young children (or some adults). My nephew would be over that top "guard" rail in seconds.

Lando Parada because its very poorly done and should be done to code because if homeowner falls insurance company wouldnt cover him because its not up to code shouldnt have that much gap between rails and hand rail is waay too low , yes save money by all means but do a job that wouldnt be hazardous to you or your beloved ones , so a douche that would charge you alot of money which i call professional labouror would give you a peice of mind

My husband made a beautiful loft bed for our 6 year old daughter with an angled ladder with wide stelsand a rail. It was a perfect ladder. But she used it like a treacherous staircase. First time my husband saw it, he tore it to pieces and made something she had to use as a ladder.

I totally get it. I have had 4 little munchkins running around at the same time and it was hectic !! They were all around 14 months apart, so it got real crazy, that's for sure. The one thing I never had to deal with is stairs, thank god ! I feel for ya if you have tiny ones and stairs. They did climb out of their cribs like all kids do, but no stairs, so I'm an amateur when it comes to that. lol.

Great safety points. As a realtor I would like to point out something. A home inspector is there to look at the home and tell the buyer as much information about the home as they can. With the information it’s up to the buyer to make the decision about what to do next. Im my area home inspection are informational only. Not to be used as a negotiation tool. Unless there is a substantial issues found in the home. An inspector should never do the Realtors job and say you should do blank. The buy should talk to their agent. Tell them what they are thinking and the agent will advise what steps should be done next. Home inspection are one of the most important parts to buying a home. Thank you Tom and TOH for the great video.
@Dark_Jester89

home inspection is info only...sounds like a ra doesnt want an inpector to muddle the deal..even if its a safety hazard. a safety issue should be a bargaining issue;;especially if its out of code
@jeteye97
6 жыл бұрын
Information is always a negotiating tool, especially that of a subject matter expert such as a professional home inspector. There’s no need for the inspector to do the agent’s job. All they need to do is comprehensively evaluate the condition of the property and enumerate the areas of concern. If an agent starts doing the inspector’s job, however, attempting to minimize those conditions, I’ll find a different agent.
@saulgoodman2018
6 жыл бұрын
You can still use the inspection report as a negotiation tool. The realtor can tell you the same thing. But if you showed the sellers proof. That would be different. If the stairs are wrong, what else is wrong?
@Mike__B
6 жыл бұрын
Disagree 100%, home inspectors are a very useful 3rd tool that has no investment on the outcome of the property, and more likely than not (I hope) a home inspector is much more mindful of things like code violations than a realtor. The number of times I've seen realtors showcase "bonus room" is up there, where as a home inspector might say "unpermitted building"
@dustinhughes7643
6 жыл бұрын
Dark_Jester89 all I’m trying to say is that a home inspector is there to look over the home and present their findings. It’s up to the prospective buyer to make an educated decision. This is also why I think it’s best to use a buyers agent and not the selling agent. That way there is no chance of shady things happening.

Classic DIY mess probably courtesy of pintrest. Just did a job where some lady (saw on pintest) how to replace her drop ceiling with 2x8s on end and spaced 1 inch apart, and then all connected and suspended by a 2x4. Just wood glued and brad nailed the damn things together. Sure enough winter comes, the wood contracts, and shes got a bunch of 16ft long 2x8s randomly falling from her ceiling.

Man that's an ugly POS staircase. Looks good in pictures, on close examination its just painted rough dimensional lumber supposed to be used for framing. This is what happens when you hire the wrong people to build stuff or you do it yourself with dangerous levels of carpentry skills(ie I know how to frame a wall, stairs can't be that hard). Wouldn't surprise me if that whole upper level was incorrectly supported/dangerous.
