This was one of my top bands from early 1981. Seeing these videos today makes me wish I had seen them live back then. Such amazing musicians. Elliot's solos were the bomb.

Great performance! Thanks for posting this, Tracy! I agree with everyone else about the "free form" performance. They were all going nuts !!!!!! I always loved it when Greg got out front and was a real part of the fun. He was so animated. Elliot was always a cut-up. Needless to say, Ben was his usual gorgeous self.

This is fun to watch with all four of them out in front having a good time. David is doing a great job as well, back there. Yes, they deserve to feel successful with all the hard work and sacrifices they put forward in making fantastic music.

Elliot....killing it once again! I sure didn't appreciate his talent when I was late teens/early 20s listening to the Cars. I sure do now. What talent, and just the right amount of stage presence to back it all up.

Many ears overlooked that what made EE great was he played for the song, and made sure each note brought the best out of the song. He was to The Cars, what George Harrison was to the Beatles, but with a little more Blues & a touch more flash😀

Thanks for the post. Great performance Like others, I didn't appreciate what was happening musically in their pop king days. But in the last five years, 4 no reason, I've been watching and listening more. The y have traits that benefitted them.. With one major talent, there didn't seem to be much power struggling 4 musical direction. Solid musical talent that. develops in front of our eyes All took their music and careers seriously, drunken antics on stage? Not And if course Rick's virtuoso talent. Good with playing cords, excellent and prolific song writer, but his genius is the arrangements I really see that now. The compositions are wide, allowing for imperfect instrumental timing, that is never noticeable and the spaciousness, is amazing. It is both filled completely and open. For instance on the studio version of this song. The organ holds the same note for 2 minutes, and it isn't even that noticeable. Genius

Yes, they were all friendly. The main rift was between Ric and Ben. Some of The Cars thought, Ric’s solo album ‘ This Side of Paridise’ which I think is a brilliant album, should have been a Cars album. In hindsight, 1986 would have been perfect timing, coming off a monster album in Heartbear City and having more universal appeal with their performance at Live Aid. Couple this with each member other then David having a solo album, and they got a touch of freedom. By 1987, things were changing in the music scene, and Door to Door was an album on a budget. Couple this with Ric producing and tensions occurred. Ric also didn't have, or at least didn't have as much Cars type material, and therefore, had to use older songs from their club days: Ta Ta Wayo Wayo & Leave or Stay. Both are excellent songs, but we're written a decade earlier, and The Cars had changed by 87. As for the shows, from the Door to Door tour, their musicianship had never been better, but the chemistry of the band lacked rthe magic, as Ben & Ric looked like they had to work hard to perform together. Having seen several of the shows as a very young person with my parents, it saddened me that my favorite all time band was out of gas. Thankfully, their legacy will not be forgotten and the RHF is where they rightfully belong😊

I get the feeling they were probably great friends. Despite how things may have gotten later, they seemed to be still tight when they did their last interview. Any thoughts on this? I know Ben and. Ric were close. Ben and Elliot always seemed to have a big bro/little bro thing going on. At least that’s how it looked to me....
