Until around 1960, Japanese mountain villages used sleds to transport lumber in the same way. However, the sleds used in Japan were larger and could carry several times the amount of wood shown in the video, and they also had brakes, so they were safe.

I did this with 300-350kg of stone/marble (per cart) every day for a month when I was younger. Instead our carts had wheels though which made things easier but I moved over 17 tons, maybe more? An entire two smaller dump truck of stone. The pain isn't too bad actually. I could still do chores after all that work, but you get restless. Laying or sitting down doesn't feel good because it causes discomfort and ache, so the trick was to keep standing and moving to stretch out the tense muscles and let them down easy. Resting after all that work actually hurt more than the work itself, sleeping was amazing though. You'd sleep like a baby, even through a hurricane.
