Fascinating how Boulez was thinking for years about some works, before writing them down, then transform them, correct, rearrange, expand them, closer and closer to the most minutious, effective, expressive, and striking musical result ! That's dedication ! And always with wonderful colors, fantastic energy and sensual musical expressivity. It's great to hear mr Barenboim talk about that passion of Boulez for music ! Thanks for sharing this interview !

“ you can’t be radical in a mild way “ interesting statement. In temperament Xenakis seemed rather mild judging by the interviews I’ve seen. Maybe the exception.

Pierre's tuxedo was a metaphor for his personality. It was strict black on the outside and had a flaming red lining that was only revealed in conducting gestures of great passion.

Good analyst, good conductor. His music is a senseless extrapolation of the 12 tone system. Arrogant condescending dictator, like the entire Darmstad school. They actually believed being the Illuminatti. There is NOTHING french in his music. He should have been German.

Alvaro Bertrand i dont have problems with contemporary but also find his music not intriguing. Messiaen is the last great composer from France

have you listened to pli selon pli, répons or derive ii? those have an undeniable french flavor that comes directly from his teacher Messiaen, and in turn from Debussy and Ravel, especially the former

Absolutely. The shimmering sensuality and pointillism (not to mention the gamelan and other Asian influences) of a piece like Le marteau seems so obviously descended from Debussy.@@santiagolopezmoskovits132
