The Urban Lunches were created in the lead up to the Alain Bertaud Public Salon on September 20, 2021. Alain was on the Big Screen engaging with 6 Vancouver urbanists including Jens von Bergmann, Wendy Waters, Chris Lewis, Andrey Pavlov, Julia Harten and Michael Mortensen.
On Thursday November 25th, 2021 Danny Oleksiuk and Dale Mcclanaghan spoke at the Urban Lunch.
Danny Oleksiuk, is a lawyer who has been a policy analyst for our Ministry of Housing and for the United Nations in Beijing and has been a member of the Vancouver renters advisory committee. His most profound influence on Vancouver is as the cofounder of abundant housing Vancouver which he serves as the current president.
Dale McClanaghan has been active in the housing sector since 1988. As CEO of VanCity Credit Union’s affordably housing subsidiary (1995-2001) Dale developed market and non-market housing throughout the region. Since 2001 he has continued an active consulting practise providing housing planning, policy research and program design to numerous local governments and universities. In 2010, McClanaghan & Associates, with a number of expert contributors, completed the City of Vancouver’s Rental Housing Strategy.
Alain is an Urban Planner and author of the internationally acclaimed book "Order Without Design: How Markets Shape Cities”. Alain is working to see that urban planners and urban economists work closer together to make more dynamic and affordable cities. We look forward to welcoming him and his wife to Vancouver in the spring of 2022.
