In the entire History of the Olympic Games, in the Men's Butterfly Swimming, all Individual Gold medals in the Butterfly at one single Olympics were won only by Three, Mark Spitz (Munich 1972), Denis Pankratov (Atlanta 1996) and Michael Phelps (Athens 2004) (Beijing 2008). but Pankratov did it in the homeland of Phelps and Mark Spitz.

Daniel Wiffen's 800 metre World Record is for short course ...this should have been mentioned. 800 metre long course is a different beast. I wish him luck as there are a number of other swimmers e.g. Sam Short and Ahmed Hafnaoui who didn't swim in this year's World Championships who will make it a great race in Paris.

@@KyleMillisTrue, but long course is the bench mark for most swimmers....i.e. long course World Champs and the Olympics. I know of a lot of top line Olympians who dislike 25 metre pools for improving their stroke, for practicing and improving your turns, yep, they are good. In short course you are spending twice as much time under the water than long course from the dive to the 29 turns in an 800 m race. If you think about it, in an 800 m short course freestyle event a swimmer can actually accumulate more distance under the water (from the dive and 29 turns up to 15 metres for each i.e. 30 x ~15 = ~450 m) than on top of the water performing the stroke, which I find bewildering. Give me long course swimming any day.

@@BG-id2cv look… I’m not a world record holder, nor are you. Who are we to tell Daniel his world record “doesn’t count”. He’s a World Record holder.

@@KyleMillisI didn't say his 800 m short course record didn't count...it certainly is a great feat. What I'm saying is that for most top line swimmers it's Long Course that means more to them than short course.

In the entire History of the Olympic Games, in Men's Swimming at the Olympic Games, the 50 and 100 meter Freestyle distances at one single Olympics, only Three won, Matt Biondi (Seoul 1988), Caleb Dressel (Tokyo 2020), Alexander Popov (Barcelona 1992) (Atlanta 1996). but Popov did it on Dressel and Biondi's home territory, in their homeland.
