I've been listening to him for over 50 years. There has never been one like him and never will again. He brings a sweetness to his play no matter what he does...It's just him. No guitar player hasn't been influenced by Eric and no guitar player has contributed more...Simple, complicated,slow, fast...there's a quality shining through his play that is HIM. He has a great soul. Utterly deserved stardom....quality that transcends the superlatives that have become cliches in his case......One of the greatest artists of our time. His great moments are history tome...real history in the book of soul ...Descriptions trivialize the reality. True greatness.

As I sat at home I found myself singing 'Danny Boy'. It was such a random thing to happen that it felt like it was a message from beyond the grave. My father was from Donegal, Ireland, and he passed away in 2013. As a child in the 60's, I heard my father sing that song. I searched the song in KZitem and found this touching guitar rendition from Eric Clapton ❤

That is stunningly beautiful from Eric PATRICK Clapton, he got this Irish/English tune to right, Eric with git no known Irish connection as far as i know except his middle name. This is an ancient Irish tune that was borrowed from an Irishwoman and was put to words by an English man called Frederic Weatherly in the 1900 and would have been heard millions of times during the 1st and 2nd world wars. We are far more connected in good ways than some people will admit or know. The great Eric plays Danny Boy so perfectly, he makes the guitar weep and feels deep pain and sadness as he plays this tune.
@lorrettacrowley5922
Жыл бұрын
@james Bradshaw : Please be more dilligent when searching to uncover the history of something/ someone. : The air/tune is thought to go as far back as at least 1612 and was thought to be entitled 'Derry Air' given that the Royal Charter by King James 1st in 1613 meant that the prefix of London was then added to Derry it was then known as a Londonderry air. However the Air/tune was played at the Belfast Harp festival in 1792 by a Dennis Hempson living nearby in Malligan and was titled A'islean an ogfear " The young man's dream". The Air/ tune was then acquired and published in 1796 by an Edward Bunting who was a member of the 'preservation of Irish melodies society'. Fast forward to 1855 and it was re published by a George Petrie using the title " Unknown"(who took up the Mantle from Bunting after the Great Famine ), in preserving Irish airs, whilst touring the length and breadth of Ireland. And then in 1910 an English Barrister/ Lyricist " Frederick E Weatherly " wrote and released the song "Danny boy" using an altogether different air/ tune from that which we all know today. It flopped and so his sister Margaret asked her friend a Jane Ross who lived in Limvady Derry if she could marry it with a better air/ tune. Jane Ross had previously become enchanted by the melody played on a fiddle by a blind beggar who regularly travelled all over Derry. She asked the beggars permission to Notate the air/tune ( hopefully gave him at least a good meal) and immediately sent it of to Fredrick Wetherby, who put the air /tune to his song and re released it in 1913, the rest as the saying goes is history. Footnotes : The society for the preservation of Irish melodies/ music is still going strong and can be accessed from 73 Merrion Square Dublin & also Trinity college. Dilligent research is its own reward 🤝

Obviously Eric Clapton is technically proficient on guitar. No doubt he is one of the greatest innovators in the evolution of Rock and Blues guitar. But what makes him special, and great, is the soul he puts into his performances. All that proficiency is useless without the soul. And, for the record ... he has become a very soulful singer as well.
