It gives me much pleasure to publically introduce Irish song writer/singer Danny O’Flaherty’s WW1 Commemorative song/video entitled “It’s A Long Way from St. John’s.” This song/video is the anchor tune for Danny’s new album, of the same name, which will be officially released later this year during the 100th Anniversary of The Signing of the Great War Armistice.
Danny, along with his co-writer, Khaetidawne Quirk, has put together an exceptionally emotional musical tribute to Newfoundland’s heroic “Blue Puttees” - The First Five Hundred Contingent of The [Royal] Newfoundland Regiment to join The British Army Fighting Service - WW1. The upcoming album will also pay special homage to: the Mothers of these heroic soldiers, their loved ones, the iconic Padre of the Regiment - Lt. Col. (Padre) Thomas Nangle, the Regiment’s Lovable Mascot - Newfoundland Dog “Sable Chief,” Newfoundland iconic Commemorative Flower the stunning little “Forget-me-not,” Women on the Home-front knitting socks for their brave “Sons of Terra Nova,” and The Fallen Boy Soldiers of the Regiment.
Danny and Khaetidawne’s haunting songs and melodies will reverberate to the core of your heart as they vividly portray that horrific event which has forever scarred Newfoundland and Labrador and its people. Their songs will take you through the “Killing Fields and Trenches” of Gallipoli, France and Belgium as you follow the iconic “Trail of The Caribou” as Newfoundland and Labrador prepares to commemorate the 102nd Anniversary of the infamous “Battle of Beaumont Hamel - July 1st, 2018.
