You can save Duncan on the harder difficulties, use the lightning daggers for starters. Then stagger the mage on the staircase, don't kill him though that way Duncan gets busy fighting him... Then go for the ghoul on the left of the spikes, kick him into them or power dagger him into them, before heading over to the right and doing the same with the ghoul who previously was cutscene locked taking out the guard. And then from there just be Johnny on the spot for all the crawling in reinforcements.. It's funny, I had a frapp's video at one point of me doing it back in '06, I was so proud of myself lol.. No one cared.

For the ones wanting Arantir's backstory (or a big part of it): Heroes of Might and Magic 5: Tribes of the East has a full campaign dedicated to what Arantir was up to before the whole "Demon Messiah" mess. The HOMM series is actually a prequel to Dark Messiah, with the events of Tribes of the East happening right before Dark Messiah. I recommend playing Heroes of Might and Magic 5 (with the extensions Hammers of Fate and ToTE) as it reveals more about the world of Dark Messiah, more on the Demon Sovereign (Sareth's father) and since it's an overall fun experience. Best thing about daggers is that you can instakill with them by throwing them at enemies with low health. Simply take a few steps back while holding left mouse button. You can also exploit it by preparing the dagger for a throw on a weakened enemy but throw it at healthy one instead.

I remember many many many years ago I played this game and back then my English wasn't good, so I couldn't really get into the deepness of the game but enjoyed the Sword fight and god have mercy on me, I desperately tried to make stealth work whenever I felt like I could've made it work. I to this day remember getting at the Orc Chief getting my shit kicked in over and over and then cooking up a plan where I would use the trap scrolls that would detonate into poisonous mist once an enemy walks over, so before the cutscene with the Orcs walking in I set up a line of the traps activate the cutscene and once he finished his monologue watching him fall over. For today's standard the game is janky as all hell but my god it's the biggest fun I had.

Honestly, the reason I prefer Dark Messiah over Dishonored is exactly because Dark Messiah doesn't give you all the tools at once. When the game gives you everything, you tend to just fall into what you're most comfortable with and ditch the rest. When you need to make a choice, it's a much stronger incentive to go back through and give the things you passed over another look. And that's great, because most everything in Dark Messiah is worth using if you can figure out how to use it well. Even the lackluster little fire bolt is pretty powerful when combined with oil jars or other flammables, making it punch way above its weight for mana consumption. There's so much thought put into most levels of the game, with an abundance of secrets, side paths to sneak around enemies, physics objects in every combat arena, and plenty of setups to emphasize what makes certain archetypes unique. Dishonored has a lot of that same thought put into it, but a lot of it is undercut by almost every obstacle being far easier to bypass using blink, which every playthrough is guaranteed to have. Plus the mana system in Dishonored, where a small amount recharged quickly, but anymore needed a potion to recover, and blink using that exact amount you recovered also kind of pushed using blink over anything else. Any new powers unlocked from there felt like gimmicks to do because they were cool, rather than something that was actually adding more power to my arsenal.
@reallylatereviews
Жыл бұрын
This is a perspective I hadn't considered honestly. And I definitely agree with what you're saying, especially where Dishonored is concerned! Blink was almost ridiculous just for how useless it made everything else feel for a stealth playthrough. As for DMM, it is personal preference for me, I feel like there needed to be a better bleed through for at least 2 of the 3 archetypes, allowing for stealth mages or arcane knights, that sort of thing. Refusing to specialise in just one almost felt like you were being penalised and I just didn't enjoy that. The level design and environmental stuff is really just phenomenal though you're absolutely right, and despite how I didn't really enjoy stealth in the game, I recognised a lot of the setups for that style of playthrough! And I want to say thank you as well for sharing your view, taking the time to comment and watch, I really appreciate it!

@@reallylatereviews Personally, I feel like the game does reasonably well on allowing hybrid builds. While it definitely could have been structured better, a lot of the earlier perks in each of the skill tree are abilities that give you more options, while going deeper into a tree offers greater specialization. The skills that open up most of your melee options are the very first perks in the warrior tree, while later ones are stuff like damage increases are further down the tree, and do comparatively little compared to moves that can break blocks, disarm enemies, and so forth. Somewhat similarly, in the magic tree, most of the spells don't cost too much pick up, but the magic affinity perks to allow you to use them constantly is a separate tree that's a huge perk sink. The utility from those spells is significant, and the inability to spam them can be compensated for by using whatever else you sunk points into. Stealth is a bit weird in that it's rolled into the utility tree, rather than a full tree of its own. Lockpicking and the ability to sneak are useful on their own, but you'll quickly run out of skill points and you kind of have to go with a hybrid build, since the rest of the tree is stuff clearly intended for very specialized warrior and mage builds. Though that also seems somewhat intentional, as while there is a lot of design in the levels to allow sneaking past fights and not alerting enemies, there are more than a few fights that can't be avoided. There's a reason you can grab every stealth related perk within the first act, and then the only meaningful upgrades it gets are gear near the end of the game, like the Thief suit. If there was a fleshed out stealth build, you'd be screwed for the few times the game just puts you in an arena with no option other than to fight your way out. Really do wish there was a solid successor to Dark Messiah. It's far from perfect, but nothing really does what I like about it better.

This was in 2006. In that time this game was the best. Even multiplayer was loads of fun: warrior arena, trying to chase that assassin near your base and getting blown off the map by a random fireball. This game made magic feel live, you could use lightning bolt on water to shock enemies on it, freeze, telekinesis, all that was so heartwarming to see. It felt alive. The story, while mediocre, had the best narrating in my opinion. You are infused with a demon. that guides you. Felt like Black and White, but only with the devil, which was loads fun.

(remake as update the living shit out of this game graphically mechanically and polish it up a bit) (edit: not to mention that this game came out almost along side Heroes of might and magic 5 that features all the enemies in this game)

There's a glitch with the 'block' animation that I discovered very very late into consuming this masterpiece; Hold mouse2(block)just before you press to prepare power strikes and the arm animations snap into positions instantly. This allso lets you swap power strike stances instantly to seemlessly adapt to enemy positioning and so on. It has made the swordplay allmost twize as good. Much quicker and responsive. More in control. Here's a brief video partially showing this glitch in use and the excellent combat system overall; kzitem.info/news/bejne/mXxm32p-h3qSo5w Awesome review btw :) thanks for making it!

If I spent half an hour waffling about the game, you show precisely why I spent that long in 2 minutes. It's a perfect demonstration of the mechanics. It's why I said there sometimes feels like there aren't enough enemies to flex on, the gameplay has the potential to let you take on a dozen enemies, but tends to only do that when you can't move your elbows for walls :D Also holy smokes I love that you're finding speed glitches this long after release haha that's awesome! That's very useful indeed.. I was going to mod the timing for it, just kind of a thing after playing sekiro.. that muscle memory is so ingrained at this point from that, which was not a problem when I first played this back in '06. I will say though, one of the most frustrating things about this game is how far away the enemies are from you when they can hit you and how the animation doesn't always sync up.. in fact rarely sinks up.. and you can hit them from a distance as well but it doesn't feel like it.. and you're having to do a mental translation which definitely takes away from what it could have been if it had something closer to chivalry's hit boxes.. But that's a masterpiece of hitbox and weapon strike game right there.. I always said the perfect game for melee would be dark Messiah, but with chivalry swordplay. I do wish there was a way to do archery that wasn't so stupid, I definitely tried earlier in my '06 playthroughs.. I don't know how to balance it though, and clearly they didn't either.. I'd have to be able to play with the values, and I might.. because the archery is surprisingly good in everything but how it actually plays out in the game, and what you have to sacrifice essentially in order to put points enough into it.

I have one itty bitty gripe with this game. The whole Leandra finding out you have a Demon inside your head? Yea, that only happens IF you use your demonic form in her presence, if you never do, she will never bring it up. However...the part that happens if you chose to Not cleans her, it will happen automatically (also pretty sure she shows up as an Undead, even if you saved her from the spider, which makes even less sense) as if it was brought up before, saying you refused to cleans her, you betrayed her and yadda yadda. It is a Scripted event, they should've cut that out until the Final part of the game, imagine you never using the demonic powers at all, and then comes the end and she finds out you had a demon inside your head all this time and just...it would've been great, but they flopped Hard on that part.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic needs a Remastered version, the graphics on Xbox 360 look good but not great, when on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Even PS5 they will look much greater than before, but the Remastered is just the beginning, the game is Epic deserves a sequel, if none of the main Video Games don't have money, time, resources for both types of games which they will be unable to then that's what my Private Video Game Big Studios will do help them pay for that, trust in that company they will make sure each of you get your early 2000's sorcery game, get each people's own favorite favorite early 2000's sorcery game, even get some people's favorite early 2000's Sorcery childhood game Remastered, + a sequel, just so you know the company will even make a New Titanfall Video Game, along with Homefront Video Games Sequels First Off Guerilla Difficulty is Harder than Just Hard, but word of advice people Sincercely There aren't any achievements for completing the Game on Guerilla, I know Cus I finished it on Guerilla, Which is Why I STRONGLY Advise each of you not to Play Homefront on Guerilla, only reason for people to play Guerilla is only to have a fun Challenge, but no Achievements, No Bonus Features, Not Even Bonus for Multiplayer. Second Say What you will about how Half of Homefront 2011 Story is Bad, okay, And then Gets Great at mission 5, through 6 and 7, but you gotta admit the Multiplayer in it is FREAKING TOTALLY INCREDIBLE. Makes you wonder why didn't the creators of Call of Duty made their multiplayers like this. Plus Homefront the Revolution is mostly a Suckage Game reboot. The Reason the Game Creators of Homefront 2011 were Unable to start making any Sequel is because the companies got shut down they discontinued the series. But We're not gonna sit by while they make a totally Horrible Homefront the Revolution 2 Game, Denied, ABSOLUTELY NOT, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That is why we are going to make the Second Game Greater, Give New Budget, restore the companies. You see, I plan to start a Private Industries Engineering Loaded Company that will start a Private Great Movie rare Studios. Increase hospital healthcare equipment. Make a Private enhanced Game new Studios. Improve Federal Bureau Investigation technology. Increase Police Fighting. Get charity Sanctuary for homeless. Even Upgrade Each American faction Militaries New Weapons. But let's focus on the Private Video Game New Studios, plan to make them a deal they won't refuse in order to fund them. You can bet as well the New Hospital equipment well have new Cures for cancers, and viruses. Oh and Homefront is very important, it's more than just a Video Game, more than just a part of Cyber space, it is a Training Simulation to help Train us Americans on the day The Korean War 2 Begins incase America gets attack, But we don't know about North Korea taking control of Japan, Saudi Arabia, and American City States, even with Nuclear missiles it is Highly Unlikely they'll take control of American States. Only Countries they can take control of with the help of China is South Korea, and maybe Japan. And that's the worse part, their greatest Weapons aren't Nuclear missiles, nor Nuclear Bombs, their Greatest Weapons is the China Liberation Army, their Warships, and their Chemical weapons. Only 2 Countries in the World have a Highly Likely Chance to take control of America, China or Russia, but they won't. With The New Classified Weapons They'll Die. You'll know exactly why soon, right now onto why China would help North Korea, simple because decades ago the Chinese government made a promise to North Korea to help them with Any Wars, when the Chinese Government make a promise they keep it forever to Honor it, that means their partnership is Permeant, even Now North Korea and China are still allies as of today. North Korea treats it's people like slaves, has ridiculous laws that only exist in North Korea. South Korea was not Owned by the Northern Korean country, nor were they friends, South Korea is an Independent Country, and when the Korean War started in 1950 the North Koreans wanted to take control of South Korea, they barely managed to defend themselves, so they called their allies America to help them, America along with their Hispanic Country allies Puerto Rico had to came to the mainland of Korea, help defend them, take back certain Southern Korean places, and got bunch of North Koreans Bastards Killed. (Seriously America Own Military fought alongside Puerto Rico's Military against North Korea, I know cuz my dad's from Puerto Rico. My mom was born in Texas, 10 months later raised her in Puerto Rico, grew up there, met Both of her Army Grandfathers, and met her Army Great Uncle, the brother of her grandmother from her father side, Anyway he's my Great Great Uncle that was in the infantry that, On Behalf of America, and Puerto Rico they fought against the North Koreans) But North Korea also had allies too, they called their friends China, started to Prolonged the War for About entire 4 Years, the War stopped on 1953, but never ended, only stopped with an Armstice Unjust Temporarily Peaceful Truce, America, North Korea Even China they agreed to stop the War so they Stopped fighting....... For Now. But in time the armstice will end, armstice are not permanent, they are temporarily, in time we will fight again. Maybe making that Armstice was a mistake, an American proverb to you people, a Just War is Better than a Unjust Peace, but don't think each of those Countries Government saw it that way. Well either way it don't matter, they made the armstice temporarily stop fighting the Killing Dangerous War Temporarily For Now, but still after 69 years, almost 70, America, North Korea, and China have had political debating War. Homefront Game series will help Train any American soldiers for the Korean War 2 on the day it happens, but even so when the North Koreans Army, Police, along with the Evil Gorvenment get and will be Killed, the Main Threat is mostly China, we're certainly not friends with them. They themselves have done many Dishonarble Sinful Terrorism that can Never go Unpunished, President Xi Jinping of China is Pure Horrible Evil, he is the one that made the genocidal Law to not have more than 1 Baby since China is Overpopulated, anyone giving birth to twins, triplets, or more must have an abortion, or if the parents refused they would huntdown any runaway family with more than 1 baby, Kill the childs, and the Parents, but in time the Law Partially changed, all families in China can now have 2 babies, but they can't both be girls, first has to be a boy, then second one can be a girl, they could only have twin boys, but no twin girls, either that or can have Twins, One boy, One Girl, now it's changed to have 3 kids. China is trying to take away Taiwan's Independence freedom, make that island become part of China, but Taiwan refuses, and there have been Political problems about America against China about going to that island. And for those Wondering What Weapons are going to make For America, that's highly Classified, some of you probably think the Goliath APC From Homefront, not sure that Vehicle is Possible, but Let's just say Maybe. Especially when even today they often sound like they're fed up of playing games You're absolutely right as well, it's one of those imperfect games that is good enough to get away with it. Thank you as well for taking the time to leave a comment and for watching my video, I really appreciate it!

I haven't watched this yet, but as an avid fan of Dark Messiah I am so excited that regardless of what happens I will be disappointed. How could you have done this to me?!

This game deserve a remaster and then a sequel. We have 2345 cores processors and games are as dry as my farts. The switch zelda games blow everybody socks off thanks to all the physics interractions, 10 years after dark messiah ! LOL. Devs are clowns and gamers are dumb. This kind of interractions should be a given in almost all games nowadays. We have the processing power and what make games better than movies is the interractivity.

Dude I'm waiting for Elder Scrolls 7 to come out and have the same damn swipe right swordplay we've had for 50 years. New games tend to focus on ultra realistic gore and stuff like that these days which personally I hate, but worse it's used to cover up the fact that the gameplay is unbelievably unfulfilling. Hitting someone with a sword doesn't need to be a spectacle visually, it needs to be an experience. Dark Messiah really does deserve a remaster or spiritual successor. What we got instead was press F to execute cool kill move, cause that's seamless gameplay right? Also, thank you for stopping to leave a comment and watching my video! I honestly appreciate it!

Oblivion would be so much better if the Melee was that of dark messiah

If Oblivion had DMM's melee that would have been fantastic. I honestly can't believe that Bethesda just carried the same floaty combat into Skyrim, Fallout, and probably into Starfield. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment, thank you!

It's worth a try it really is, I think it (ice) slipped under so many radars because of other games at the time. And to be fair, yeah even I was playing Oblivion haha! I also want to say thank you! For watching and commenting on my video, I really appreciate it! So thank you!

Now that I've watched the video, I can wholeheartedly agree. Dark Messiah is great and everyone who disagrees is stupid. Also, yes, saving Duncan is the true objective of the game, and it's very very hard.

Lots of people are NOT fans of the Ashan world that started with (Ubisoft) Heroes of Might and Magic 5, but I really like it! After playing HOMM5 and learning about the free cities (Stonehelm) I really loved walking on its streets! The game is connected to the HoMM franchise from that point on! I REALLY love that game and I love to re-play it from time to time :) It is NOT perfect but no game IS actually perfect :)
