Abstract
A major hurricanes makes landfall in southeastern Louisiana. For the residents who stayed behind, it gradually becomes clear that this is no ordinary cyclone. In the dark of the storm, an unknown presence lurks within the extreme weather...
Analysis
This scenario was meant to be based off the plot of Resident Evil 7. In particular, a hurricane causes a cargo ship carrying a biological weapon to run aground, beginning the events of that game. The game's setting occurs somewhere along the Louisiana coast. The specific location is fictional, but I ended up picking the Houma area as the main setting for this scenario. For the hurricane, I loosely used the track of Hurricane Katrina (2005). By 2017, the NWS began implementing new hurricane-related products, such as Storm Surge Watch/Warning and Extreme Wind Warning. These weren't available during Katrina, so this hurricane depicts what alerts could've been issued if it happened in 2017. The unknown presence that affects the radio stations is meant to represent one of the characters from Resident Evil 7, but in retrospect, this was not portrayed in an ideal manner. The events of the game would've been represented in a sequel, but this has since been abandoned. See the "other" section for more details.
Production
The visuals were created on Microsoft PowerPoint with some custom fonts and were recorded using QuickTime Player. The EAS headers and tones were created using a custom program, and the TTS voices were sourced from an online demo. This and other audio elements were mixed on Audacity. The final scenario was edited and rendered using iMovie. Total production time was a few weeks at most.
Other
This is a redux of the original video, published in 2017. Nothing was changed aside from the intro, which was replaced with the standard disclaimers I use in my current projects. This EAS scenario was originally titled "The Infection II: Part 1" and was eventually changed to simply "Dark Storm". The reason for the title change, as many viewers pointed out, was the lack of any "infection" component in the scenario. That was meant to be portrayed more clearly in Part 2, but this was abandoned and never produced. This was meant to be a sequel to "The Infection", the most popular scenario on my channel. When I originally uploaded this project, my personal life was undergoing radical changes as I was heading into college and early adulthood. I was under immense pressure from family to focus on school and preparing for college, which destroyed my passion and desire to make EAS scenarios. I ended up deleting the original video, likely out of spite and frustration. Nearly 6 years later, I've decided to rerelease the scenario. This is part of cleaning out the "vault" of EAS scenarios as I retire from the EAS community.
Disclaimer
This presentation contains EAS alerts with authentic audio. Therefore, the alerts can be used to trigger real EAS equipment. Unauthorized usage of EAS tones on live radio/TV stations is an FCC violation which can result in fines/prison. I will not assume liability for misuse.
