A common straw that breaks the camel's back in PTSD are the actions (or negligent inactions) of a manager with Dark Triad (DT) personality traits. This is especially common in organisations such as the police, military, large organisations and in politics/government. The Dark Triad traits are lack of emotional empathy (psychopathy), feeling entitled to take short cuts and the drive of to seek status/power (Narcissism) and the tendency to deceive & gaslight ("Machiavellianism").
a narcissistic boss is a nightmare, add psychopathy and you're really in peril.
Persons with these traits tend to seek status at the expense of others.
Dark Triad managers will steal your credit and scapegoat you if you make them look bad or if you show them up because of their perceived loss of status.
Sadism is when people derive positive emotion from causing others negative emotion.
Persons with Dark Triad traits tend to aggregate in management. There can steal credit and scapegoat underlings to improve their own status. That's not to say that all managers are DTs, but it's wise to keep one's eyes wide open.
Have you ever been burnt by the bad boss? Or the bad ex-partner? They might have been a Dark Triad. Check out this new video as Dr Al Griskaitis (psychiatrist) explains.
