Thank you Boris. I like, that you use from time to time also synthetic images to explain the function of DT modules.

There are always little nuggets of information in your videos that are worth watching even if you weren't using DT. This time your explanation of why colour shifts occur made half an hour worth it. And that's before the useful DT workflow. Brilliant as ever. Thanks very much.

Thanks, Boris; very instructive as always. I had trouble processing a photo of a fireplace with Filmic v6 on. Even with "preserve chrominance = no" it turned highlights (including overexposed bits) towards red-pink instead of a more natural red-orange-yellow, no matter how toned or hue-shifted with Color Balance RGB (filmic v5 do change as expected when preserve chrominance is switched off-on)

This is due to overexposure of the raw file. The question is what version of Darktable you are using. I strongly recommend to upgrade to the latest 4.2, because there you have a couple of new methods of highlight reconstruction available. In this version you can try different options. By default, the "inpaint opposed" is turned on, which gives excellent results immediately, without any additional settings. If that doesn't work, I recommend playing with the "segmentation based". You can read about it here: darktable-org.github.io/dtdocs/en/module-reference/processing-modules/highlight-reconstruction/

Thank you for another excellent video. I learned most from the part where you start with a color-calibrated step and then use Color Balance RGB to color grade and get back the look you wanted. It "clicked" this time for me.

Very nice example and explanation! Just a little feedback on the video: the UI elements are tiny, I can only read them when playing the video fullscreen in full resolution on my 2560×1440 monitor. I suggest that you use the darktable settings to scale the UI elements and/or the font size when recording. Thanks!

Another great video. I think you could make you next video just on the presets you have made for diffuse and sharpen and tone equalizer. After seeing those I feel like I am under utilizing those modules!

One request I have: Would you make a video on restoring old photos which have a strong red tint? I found a photo from 40+ years ago and it is all red and orange. I scanned it with 600 dpi and saved it as a TIFF. Can the colours be restored?

Hi Christian, although darktable is primarily a tool for editing raw files, you can also make corrections to other image formats. My recommendation would be that you register to this forum: discuss.pixls.us/ and describe your problem there. This is a forum about using free software for image processing (among others darktable) where I also participate. Here are two posts that already had similar topics. The first one is about RawTherapee (also like darktable a program for developing raw files) as a tool for color correction of analog photos: discuss.pixls.us/t/how-to-restore-60-yo-ektachrome-images/33948/42 The second, somewhat older one concerns darktable: discuss.pixls.us/t/method-for-removing-local-color-casts/16060 As I said, you can open a post there and I'll take a look.
