Daron is one of THE MOST underrated guitar players ever. He shows you don't have to be complex to be good. Daron himself said he wasn't ever interested in shredding "I solo more melodically, I never wanted to play like them" his words exactly and by them he means players such as bucket head, Van Halen etc. but he loves them.

its not technical skill, its creativity and stage presence. he knows how to write a good song and it doesn't need a 40 minute technical shredding solo, he isnt afraid to improvise and play things the way he wants and the entire band is eccentric as hell, so it fits the need in the band. he has a vibe, he knows his audience and his limitations and he used his talent where he can and his showmanship where it peaks. and drugs. he is on so many drugs its amazing he can stand up. his album work shows his skill more than live shows but live shows how a man that is 40 percent LSD by weight, who cannot even remember his name or pinpoint where he is in relation to the earth can still feel a groove and ride it. that alone is impressive in a way. this is more a combination of style and knowing what notes are crucial to set a mood, than it is just being technical and precise. this whole band is about making you think and feel, stirring up emotions and yes, also drugs again, but SOAD fans dont want a mechanically accurate scale recital and the same 4 chords the pop charts have told you to expect, they want trippy weird and creative, no fear and fuck it sort of experience and Daron has mastered that expectation. hell, Eddie VanHalen had some sloppy notes in some of his insane solos and people love him too, because he was different and crazy and didnt give a fuck...this is me, this is not the shit you are used to, this is new and passionate and i am not afraid to squeak a note for the sake of holding back this thing that i need to let out. love it or hate it...here it is. same basic idea, different generation, both awesome, and i respect that. there are times when i just wanna zone out and be somewhere else and SOAD takes you somewhere, blurrs the world and throws the rules to the wind. its therapeutic for some, and those who embrace that kind of music and can create it consistently and never give into the mass stereotypes are rare and therefore cherished when they pop up. its not for everyone, but it is unique, and its hard to be unique anymore.

Fuck, dude, your comment is fucking amazing! I feel the same, I don’t understand these nerds saying “Boo Boo Boo, he’a not a great guitarist boo boo boo his technic is bad, his riffs are simple bla bla”. Go fuck yourselves and listen to some Protest the hero or some shit and don’t forget to fuck yourselves. SOAD, and Daron specifically, are different, they were something new and unique, try to find something similar or even close to SOAD’s music, good luck. And the fact is most of the music is written by Daron. Thanks to their Armenian roots and culture the music sounds extravagant and unique, refreshing. In terms of technic Daron doesn’t give a fuck, so do we - fans.

After seeing the shit show of comments, I have to say. Daron is one of those guitarists who doesn't give a flying fuck about anything. Even if the playing isn't perfect, he infuses his playing with his personality and heart. That's exactly why I love this dude with his work. So to the people saying "distortion is a way to play shit and still sound good" bull, you clearly haven't heard Daron himself play without distortion. It's fuckin mesmerizing in a way.
