@@leighghunt You're right. For a car with ABS the braking distance is roughly 0.0039 * (speed in km/h)^2. 63kph gives about 15.3m. 50kph about 9.6m. And this doesn't even include the better reaction distance at lower speed. If the driver hadn't been speeding they'd have stopped more than 5 metres earlier, and judging by the video that would have been plenty to avoid the pedestrian (they stopped a few metres past where the pedestrian was). This is a perfect example to highlight the dangers of speeding, and also the importance of choosing a car with ABS (it sounded in the video like car did not have ABS).

Nothing drops your tolerance to zero for fuckheads on the road like losing a car to them. I used to tolerate pricks on the road but these days I am more than happy to blast their ears out with the horn or my exhaust when they do stupid shit. It's depressing beyond belief that you have to run on the assumption that literally everyone on the road is braindead and will crash into you if you don't avoid them but it's saved me from countless close calls. It's rare that I go for a five minute drive and DON'T get cut off at a roundabout from some Holden driver that didn't look.

Ok a couple o things I had to watch this twice because I just didn't believe what I actually saw, the quantity of near hits --astonishing simply astonishing, man I thought we drive bad here in Canada but Australia certainly bested that one. I'm not sure I'd be proud of that but the drivers who avoided all those idiots deserve my hats off to you.

@Maroxa’s Choices I think he means as soon as you blow over the limit. Before the case goes to court. Previously you could be charged, but continue to drive, (after you sobered up), until the court case and you were actually convicted. So for example, if you were caught at an RBT, you would get a summons, get a taxi home, then next morning drive until your court appearance, which might be 4 weeks away. Now as soon as you blow over the limit at the RBT you are suspended.

These videos are surprisingly helpful for someone like me, for people who need to see what not to do. It's very nice to see what works and what doesn't, it also helps you see why the laws are how they are. And how to react, because most of the people who are recording come back unscathed by idiots. And good example of how the police will catch you most of the time.
