Speaker biographies:
Martin Sloan
Martin is an experienced lawyer specialising in IP, Tech and Data. He combines technical knowledge with an interest in understanding his client's business to provide pragmatic advice and practical solutions.
Martin's expertise includes technology procurement, IT outsourcing, business process outsourcing, commercial contracts, intellectual property, data protection, ePrivacy and cyber risk. Martin regularly helps clients in relation to the legal and commercial risks relating to the development and use of new technology, such as cloud-based services, and projects involving AI, blockchain and big data.
Martin's telecoms sector experience includes advising a number of fibre broadband operators on government infrastructure subsidy contracts, including Project Gigabit, together with OFCOM regulatory compliance, customer terms and conditions, and supply chain contracts.
Martin works with clients across a range of sectors including technology and telecoms, financial services, media, food and drink, charities and the third sector, and the public sector. Martin also advises technology businesses and innovative tech start-ups, including fintech and adtech.
Rachel Lawson
Rachel joined the Commercial Services Division at Brodies as a solicitor in March 2020.
Since qualifying, Rachel has built up experience in advising clients in the private, public and third sectors on commercial contracts, information laws and intellectual property law. Rachel particularly enjoys giving advice on data protection matters including auditing, reporting, complex data sharing arrangements and overarching day-to-day compliance.
