The fact that you avoid white girls just because you don't want to fall into the stereotype is what I was talking about. White girls or not, that shouldn't matter. It has to do with your perspective on avoiding white girls because of stereotype from others. Why does it matter what they think of you? You are the one that's living your life, not them. Hi David, I've criticized you in the past for not speaking on racism against Asian-American community. Thank you so much for this episode. What Ed shares is similar to what a lot of AAPI experience in parts of the country where we are an extreme minority. It is so important to have these conversations so that our struggle is visible to non-Asian communities. Jeremy Lin recently reported that someone on an opposing team called him 'coronovirus' during a basketball game. The rise of attacks against AAPI and then the subsequent lack of media coverage is incredibly troubling. AAPI deal with an invisibility problem because our history is not taught in schools. In the eyes of a lot of Americans (both white and poc) we are perpetual foreigners, which is why Jeremy LIn, someone born in California, is blamed for China's response to Covid-19. So many of the comments on this video about it ( kzitem.info/news/bejne/z5yutZidcH5ngYI ) are expressing that AAPI do not deserve sympathy from other POC communities due to AAPI racism toward other POC or due to AAPI having a proximity to whiteness and being the 'model minority.' Other comments ask why the journalist doesn't cover how Chinese people in China have treated black immigrants during Covid lockdown. These commenters literally don't understand that Asian-Americans have NOTHING to do with what is going on in China. This is a video uploaded on a liberal channel. Yet all these liberal viewers are so ignorant. So again, thank you for having this conversation and thank you Ed for being so open about your experience. The 'go back to where you came from' line is so hurtful when you have been American your whole life but everyone around you constantly treats you as a foreigner. (Which is why I have been critical of Asian stereotype jokes (even when asian-americans tells them) - it 'others' us in the eyes of non-asians)

It truly is annoying when people like the girl in Ed's story treat a culture/ race like a fetishized trinket. They only like the culture for superficial reasons and are like: "I like this culture. It's mine now so I can do whatever the fuck I want with it." But then again most of the time that type of attitude is coming from a place of ignorance.

The first time I went to her place it was weird because her whole place was decked out in Asian stuff. I mean stuff like shelves, the tables, she had chopsticks... she had one of those big Korean tables from Pal-Do... then I saw her pictures and just about all of them were her with Asian guys. Because as a person that has been into a lot of Asian culture since like 10 (had a lot of Asian friends - grew up with Filipinos, Pakistanis and Chinese girls/guys) - we automatically get grouped into the fetish people. This is an interesting take for somebody such as myself as an Black person, since I have been around and friends with Asians so I understand the fetishization, particularly for the females, and the fact that some are viewed the opposite way to black men because of stereotypes any lack of understanding of the people or culture. The difference is that the black community looks down on black men and white women since more time they're together for negative reasons, and are only championed by other guys when we get with them, but for Asian men for some it seems like an accomplishment which might stem from the brainwashing of Western beauty standards. While I am not against Interracial relationships, most of the time they get together without actually knowing the other's culture or background, which is why there are problems in the future because they wanted to be with the person for one thing and not everything. The problem with some relationships with white people is that unless they are more likely to not notice difference in cultures, since they didn't have to grow up with much of a culture themselves and usually group themselves together, unless they are directly from Europe (excluding the UK). (Btw Jamaica was the first island to spread its culture worldwide but love to you guys and South Korea)

I think we should get white people to try to understand their culture because it's kind of been drowned out by America. We have Asian Americans and they celebrate their own culture, and hispanic and Latino Americans that celebrate their culture, and African Americans that have even formed their own culture here, and it seems like white people are just American I want to see white people celebrate being dutch, or german, or slavic. I think it would help people find their identity and frankly it's gross to see people shit on white people simply for being white. And we for the most part allow it as a society. I'm mexican and shit but it feels wrong to call these people peices of shit for being born a different color and its not justice to do this to them because their grandpappy also used to do it. It feels wrong. If we're gonna shit on people lets make it fair at least.

It depends on what shoe I'm wearing and how recently they've been cleaned with how comfortable I am with wearing them inside. Most of shoes are brand new as I went up a half size so I take them off in a relaxed way. I usually take them off immediately but I won't have a problem going to sit down to do it. If I'm uncomfortable in your house I think I only keep them on subconsciously so I can leave if I need to so I might have them on for a bit and then take them off as I settle in. I don't mean to bring gross into your house but my shoes are nearly always clean. I can be really anxious in social situations and my feet are hideous, and some people have strangely freezing houses or dirty floors. I'm not trying to disrespect your floor if you already did. My walking shoes- tennis or mary janes, get washed on their bottoms frequently and I'll rotate to keep them clean so I might keep them on to go in or out back and forth. My work shoes do not get worn outside so I don't ever consider them dirty until they get sticky however I fucking hate them so they come off. They have to be washed frequently. Boots off immediately. I have this sore spot on my foot I'm trying to fix and sometimes I step barefoot and its the sharpest pain and I hate it. I don't want to wear shoes and I don't have a pair of house slippers right now. I'm trying to get into slippers but I used to hate them because they fell off my feet. I think a big reason why I don't think my shoes are dirty is I'm not walking in nasty stuff and I have a spare pair for nasty situations and I will wear dedicated slippers or chore socks to do chores like mopping instead of shoes. My boyfriends' parents house is constantly filthy on the floor because his little bro is special needs and a mega handful so I will either keep my janes on or switch to those socks that grip your foot at the ankle while I'm there. I'll put them on over tights even. Made the mistake of going barefoot once and had to wash my feet to return them to my shoes. I've stepped in marshmellow going over there to help and hang out. Right now I don't have a spot for one but I have an entryway bench so I can take my shoes off at the door a thousand times easier, I really want that. Why the fuck does my house go straight into the kitchen I hate it.
