I first heard 1. Outside excerpt while watching "Lost Highway" by David Lynch, with that straight yellow line fading out into darkness as "I"m deranged" kicks in. At first I couldn't believe what I was hearing, it sounded so new and mastery skilled at the same time. Die hard fans of Bowie seem to not place that album on top of their fav ones, but I mean the whole album is so different from the other ones. It's itself a trip through the darkness of the mind.

@@sub-jec-tiv this album was not mainstream at all to be honest. Strangers when we meet is IMHO the only song able to do something for a classic pop rock audience. On the long run, it will gain recognition when other artists will say a part of their inspiration came from the 90s Era of Bowie. I think the ziggy stardust Era stole all the fame because of the glam but every hardcore fan knows there is far more in his catalog

I would see him perform at the Phoenix Festival in 97, Glastonbury in 2000, Heathen at old Trafford in 2003 and then the last time at The Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide. South Australia. Iman really did complete Bowie. After they married, He just suddenly became impossibly self assured, completely comfortable with his back catalogue, and unbelievably beautiful. I remember at the time of Outside and Earthling there being a lot of complaints from ‘fans’ that his live set wasn’t playing the hits. And yet now, we’d give anything just to hear him play again, even if it was the Laughing Gnome. So glad I saw him in 2003 in Dublin. 4:25 you can really hear shades of I Can't Give Everything Away here… maybe I’m imagining it!

I've adored Bowie since my teens. In fact, the first time I ever saw him was when I saw a picture of him on the cover of my brother's record album. My brother is 2 years younger than me but he's always been very perceptive and talented musically, more so than me really. And that picture! It was the one where David was wearing a suit and holding a saxophone, and he had his Ziggy haircut. I remember it so well. I had snuck into my brother's room, which was off limits. He was the one boy out of six kids. The rest of us were girls. But of course, periodically us girls had to sneak into his room when he wasn't there to see what was so secret about it LOLOL 😂. On this occasion I had gone in there by myself, and I noticed his record albums. I suppose I'm dating myself here, but at that time, to a teenager, to even own a record album was a Big Deal. So of course, that's what I gravitated to first when I went into his room. And I was immediately confronted with this mesmerizing portrait of a young man (Bowie), at the time of my life when the hormones were starting to kick in. I was, well, mesmerized! I looked at it for a long time. And turned it over, and turned it back. There was just something about that guy. Maybe it was simple teenage "love at first sight". Anyway, I remembered him, and eventually I wound up in my own apartment, lying on my back with my headphones on, listening to The Man Who Sold the World. And then Hunky Dory. And then Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. I've loved and adored David Bowie ever since. I always will.

That might be he made a effort but french are 2 nationalistic ,and if you ask anything in english generally they make no efford at all compared to the dutch they speak 4 languages. Its also the schoolsystem in france which doesnt see english language as important.
@dianefinidori8132
3 жыл бұрын
@@MrDutchuk The French are not bad at foreign languages because of ideological reasons, or because they want to make no effort. First, let's face it, it's much easier for a Dutch speaker (who often speaks a regional language too) to speak fluently other germanic languages like English, German, Swedish than it is for French people. French is mostly a Romance language, but its pronunciation and grammar are very different from the languages of the same family. So, speaking French doesn't help in learning Spanish or Italian. Secondly, the Netherlands have neither the same history nor the same geography as France, and the French political leaders have not given the same importance to foreign languages.The priorities were different. However, today learning other languages is essential, and the teaching methods are better than they were 30 years ago, but it will take some years for the level to increase in the general population. The French are often reluctant to speak foreign languages, but it's mostly because they're a little ashamed to.
@TWD66
3 жыл бұрын
@@dianefinidori8132 Absolutely. As an other example, France is one of the few countries worldwide to have a dubbing industry to translate and dub movies which are aired on TV, as opposed to the much more common subtitles industry. French medias are exclusively French speaking, which contributes to hamper learning foreign languages. And nationalism has nothing to do with that fact.
