One of my main childhood memories are of my parents blasting this song and album in the house. They also took me to see him in concert - the tour supporting this album. We were in the 7th row somehow. My dad is very loud and he walked into the aisle and screamed louder than ever, 'PLAY PABLO PICASSO.' Everyone else in the arena was also screaming so overall it blended in. Sadly, my child (at the time) brain only retained the memory of Suffragette City and Under Pressure. I think my face the entire time was this: :O and o.o

Would have been nice if 'DavidBowieVEVO' could have provided info about this video, date of recording, etc. It's a cover of Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. From Wikipedia: "Pablo Picasso" is a song written by Jonathan Richman[1] for the proto punk group The Modern Lovers. The song was recorded in 1972 at Whitney Studios in Los Angeles, and produced by John Cale, but was not released until 1976, on the Modern Lovers' self-titled debut album. The recording featured Richman (lead guitar, vocals), Ernie Brooks (second guitar), Jerry Harrison (bass) and David Robinson (drums), with Cale playing the repetitive hammered piano part.[2] The central character of the song is the charismatic 20th century artist Pablo Picasso, suggesting that, unlike most men and despite Picasso's rather diminutive stature, women never rejected his romantic advances.[3] In a 1980 interview, Richman stated that the song was inspired by his own adolescent "self-consciousness" with women. Further down in Wikipedia page: 2003 David Bowie, on his album Reality; a live version recorded at Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, London on 8 September 2003 was released on the 'Tour Edition' of Reality.

Bowie always had exquisite taste in his choice of covers. He always brought something new to these great songs and made them his own. Of the many i could mention i thought his choice of Simon and Garfunkel's "America" was perfect for the 911 charity gig he joined. He brought a poignancy to the lyrics which chimed with the tragic events for which the concert was raising funds.

I heard this song off a cassette I found in a bankrupt restaurant in July in the late eighties. It was closed in December and the "Repo Man" soundtrack is what we found in the restaurant's music system. We listened to the this song in the summer heat. @@chloebergeron5430It’s a well covered song. Yes, I know it was written by Jonathan Richman (who also wrote Roadrunner). But there are certain covers where the covering artist really puts his imprint on a song. You might say they steal it. You might say they transform it. I don’t know. Hendrix covered All Along the Watchtower. Cash covered Hurt Kurt did The Man Who Sold the World Bowie took a stripped down, funny song by JR&tML and made it something else.
