One reason why certain religious practices or almost all religious practices and their institutions may still continue until these modern days is probably because dictators and many governments know is a perfect tool to keep people submissive. So, I don’t think that religion practices are still kept and shaped only because they work.

I find this very interesting. I think that science and religion are actually pretty similar, as far as there being a good deal of faith involved. How can quantum physics or atomic structure or cosmology be envisioned without a certain amount of faith. We are animals above and beyond anything else. Most animals have communities and some kind of hierarchy they live within. There’s a feeling of “content”? that comes from being part of the group. I think it was Deepak Chopra who called the ability that fish and birds have to move together “collective conscientiousness”. Not nearly as impressive but people pray, sing, dance, march in similar ways. I was raised a Catholic and later in life learn Transcendental Meditation and I felt a similar state of mind with both. I equate both practices to clearing the minds blackboard. We all know how cluttered and confusing a blackboard can get after many points are added and clearing allows a new start. Another way to visualize the effect of meditation, and part of the actual concept of TM is the lowering of your vibratory rate. As our lives move faster and faster and we try to process more and more all at once that frazzled feeling is our vibratory rate. Aren’t a lot of these mind calming techniques called disciplines? Because it takes a certain amount of consciousness to preform them regularly. It’s been very cool to hear the two of you talk about something I’ve often thought about.
