In case no one noticed, the whole thing about punching monsters and taking in the freaks and whatnot was just him talking about acceptance of people and overcoming evils as a society. It's kind of ironic how the people accusing him of trying to push his political agenda are kind of pushing politics into the speech by accusing him of that.

I'm not sure why so many people were butthurt by this speech. By talking about "hunting monsters" and "punching people in the face", he was simply doing a parallel with his character in Stranger Things who hunts actual monsters and literally punches peoples. It was merely a metaphor to encourage people to keep struggling against intolerance, prejudices and protecting the most vulnerables. People are so sensitive.

I was told I HAD to watch this show. So I did and didn't like it but my wife wanted to keep watching it. Se we watched both seasons and it SUCKED!! poor plotline, poor acting, shitty charactor development, and they had several subplots that they just abandoned and provided zero closure to. And on top of it, I'm so tired of the underlining liberal messaging in EVERY show!! We get it, small towns suck, nerds are awesome, husbands are all bafoons, kids are smarter than their parents, and small town USA is racist...... Could they throw any more liberal shit in there? Only thing missing is some evil businessman and maybe have a couple gay charactors and your all set................

People honestly don't get the obvious parallel in "punching monsters" and the whole "punching Nazis" bullshit? And by "Nazis", the man anyone left of Bernie, that doesn't completely toe the party line? A completely childish, violent mindset in where "I don't agree with you, so I have every right to assault you". I had so much respect for the character, and stupidly thought bc of the wonderful portrayal, he was pulling his own feelings, personality, and similarity into his work. How foolish. Just like De Niro, I'm disgusting and disappointed.

Of course it was political. "The casual violence of certain institutions and individuals..." "We will punch them in the face.." This was done when the whole punching nazis in the face was just going crazy on the news. As I said above, this speech reads like Lincoln. It's exceptionally well written. The English is beautiful, and his delivery is freakin FIRED UP.

No that's not what he said at all. It was a clever parallel with his character on the show who literally punches evil in the face, and he was saying people should figuratively punch evil in the face as a mean to overcome our differences and build our world united. It's a very nice and poetic figure of speech that has nothing to do with restraining freedom of speech, and I think everyone understood that and just decided to ignore it because they wanted to bring their own political agenda to the table
@lacyhorton890

Lol that is exacly what those antifa violent ones say " those people are against differences, lets punch them" thats why they call who don't agree with them nazi, racists, homophobic. This way they can punch. Now, saying "it's figuratively" doesn't take away the parallels. It's the exact same thing people who actually punch others for political reasons do.

Well one less good show to watch, wish people would stick to what they are trained to do, act and entertain instead of trying to influence and mold the country to their opinion or outlook. Instead of speaking of your opinions, preach research and understanding, education and compassion. This is almost as pretentious as Ben Affleck accrediting the abolishing of slavery to entertainment and film industry. Jim hopper stay jim hopper or resign
@aarons194

First off this country is founded on independent beliefs and runs on the capitalist economy, in which each if a person doesn't enjoy or like something they can show their support or lack of by their action, it's not pretentious to do what our economy has done for years, unlike standing in front of a award ceremony and basically trying to change the world through a sci fi show. And yes dumb ass the show was made for me, for you and other general public, when dumbasses like yourself who have no understanding of how supply and demand or society works, assume that every business or human is as slow and lost as them, this is not true. Entertainment and media is like any other business and they know that they are nothing without their audience which is composed of millions of individuals, and unlike you they actually do care when they lose viewers and if you think my view is only one then your dumbass needs to better understand the word... naive.
@solalchomand5910
6 жыл бұрын
Something very simple : insulting someone just discredits you totally. And David Harbour has the right to have and express his opinion. You say it yourself, "if a person doesn't enjoy or like something they can show their support or lack of by their action", he was supporting solidarity and was showing a lack of support for "bullies, monsters", something vague enough to be qualified as "evil in general", and there's nothing wrong with that
@aarons194
6 жыл бұрын
Solal Chomand it is something wrong when you are an influential person who realize what you are doing is to influence your fans young and probably not so well researched and using entertainment to shape societies views, why does he get the opportunity to air his opinion in front of the world when I came to watch the award ceremony, I don't need an actor who because he works in media feels compelled to share his personal views to millions because he can, you still get paid, it is a job. Just like I was adult about it and said I'll through my support through my actions something he should do and when people ask his stance he can explain if he likes but you're not a politician, you're not an activist or anyone I'm government- you are strictly using your moment to shine as the platform to express your feelings. That's like me being given the honor to sing at the super bowl before I sing I make a huge speech about what I feel society should value, what if this speech happened during acceptance of the Lombardi trophy, or but what if a student decided to say how they felt about society and what's going on after getting the valedictorian award? These people are getting away doing this because you don't understand separation and doing things properly something this guy doesn't either
@aarons194
6 жыл бұрын
Solal Chomand a lack of support for bullying- do you read your comment ? You are telling me their are people out their that actively support bullying? And if that's all you got from his speech you need to listen to it again because he was going far beyond that
@solalchomand5910
6 жыл бұрын
Well if you want me to get all philosophical on you, Sartre, french writer, says taking a course of action reveal that we wish to see that course of action embraced by everyone. So if you're a bully, you want everyone to be bullies. So technically bullies support bullying. But that's not even what I meant, I'm french dude so I'm doing my best to be clear and I think it was pretty clear I was saying that he said bullying is wrong. Stating the obvious, yes, but there are still bullies out there so it needed to be said. And if you don't allow a person to publicly share an opinion, you're restraining freedom of speech, it's as simple as that. And, once again, his view on society is "evil is bad, unity is good", that's what the speech was about, there was barely a political aspect. And please, use ponctuation
