I played this for Indiana's Solo and Ensemble competition, and I took it to state yesterday. I got gold! The judge left me a comment saying she had listened to this piece several times, and I was the first one that played it like Bach. :)

You sure? If you received such a positive comment, I guess you used a baroque bow and baroque phrasing, the gut strings are optional. Because playing Bach like Bach isn't playing Bach like Oistrakh or Menuhin or Gitlis

I have this exact performance on CD and I've listened to it hundreds of times. It's a little weird seeing it played so long ago, but I think this is--by far--the best interpretation of this piece. Most lead violinists I've listen to play Bach's violin concertos way too fast. If you can, buy the CD of this performance. It's the best CD I've ever purchased.

It depends what conservatory you are in. I think in Europe, it's 1-8, but in Canada it's 1-10, and then ARCT, which is performers' or teachers' certification.

I was just objectively talking my opinion. Oistrakh is great,no any question about it. but nobody is 100% perfect all the time. for this recording, if you watch Hillary hahn playing the same piece, you will notice her extraordinary significance. her vivid interpretation, energized, pleasant stable pace and more.. still Oistrakh is one of the great violinists of 20th Century for sure. my idol when I was a kid.
