not really, is just NORMAL... what happens is that you may be comparing with the majority of famous/successful people (athletes, actors, etc) that act like arrogant idiots... Popovic is just how it should be... simple... dont label that. it is just he.

@@edubielalpizar4391 when I listen to him I think the thing that stands out as amazing is how he takes accountability. And I feel in America a lot of athletes don’t learn accountability and often aren’t even held accountable. Which I agree accountability should be the norm

I am really in awe at how well spoken, self aware, reflective and composed he is. How precise he can express himself, in a foreign language no less. I could listen to him talk for hours, and I cannot believe I am saying this about a 17 year old!

What I like about this kid is the fact that he really does seem like a normal guy who just swims super fast :) i hope all the fame and attention wont change who he is as who he is right now seems like a pretty cool person. Keep it up, David. Hope you get the time to see more films in the future :)

i think part of the reason david is so damn good is from his practice of meditation. the brain uses ~20% of the oxygen we consume, so if you practice meditation regularly you're able to reduce the number of thoughts in your brain that are irrelevant to the task at hand. if you swim a 100 freestyle and you're worrying about other competitors throughout the race, or you're anxious about where you might place, your brain has to use more oxygen to create these thoughts. if you practice the art of meditation (which is the art of reducing the number of thoughts manifesting in your consciousness) and you only focus on the physical task of moving yourself through the water, your brain uses less oxygen while you're swimming and it means there's more left over which you can use in your muscles.

As a swim fan, it's great to get all these insights into David from SwimSwam & Brett Hawke. But if I was part of his inner circle, I would strongly advice on reducing the media focus and attention! Let the guy focus on swimming and entertaining swim fans without all the added pressure and expectations on performance that often leads to career burnouts!!

Great interview, and once again David exhibits a down-to-earth maturity way beyond his physical age :)... which is undoubtedly a key factor in how he approaches his training & competitions, but also in how he doesn't let all the media attention affect his focus.
