This video is from the Sonics PPV telecast of the first home game in the newly remodeled Key Arena, from Nov. 4, 1995.
For those people who feel we've done nothing for the Sonics in Seattle, we did something for the Sonics 13 years ago, before Safeco Field, before Qwest Field, we remodeled the old, outdated Seattle Coliseum.
It was very well received around the league, and I'm sure David Stern loved that it was built to specifications that didn't fit NHL requirements, ensuring that Seattle sports fans would only have the Sonics to follow in the winter and spring.
So...Key Arena is no good anymore, after only 13 years? After it was loved by the team, and the league when it opened? Now a second remodel isn't good enough for David Stern or Clay Bennett? We have to give $500 million for a new arena, or the team leaves Seattle?
I post this video to show fans in Oklahoma that what David Stern and Clay Bennett are saying now, about how wonderful the Ford Center will be with a remodel, in 10-12 years' time, they'll be coming after you. Just like in Seattle, that remodel will not be good enough anymore. You're going to have to go through it all over again. And if you say, "enough!", you will probably lose your team too.
How messed up is the NBA business model, when buildings must be remodeled or built every 12 years? If you're not a fan of the Lakers, Bulls, Knicks, or Celtics, will your team be at risk someday?
For those who care, the Sonics beat the Lakers in this game, 103-89.
Негізгі бет David Stern LOVES Key Arena!!
