David means something different to each of us. From his early days in Japan, through the early solo years, all along the collaborations, he has given us something that our soul desires. He has touched old loves, bringing them back to our lives. If you like Sylvian, you'll know that you just can't adequately convey what he means, in words.

I know I shouldn't be selfish, however I think that many of us feel as though great musicians owe us more. Remember that they went into music because it motivated and inspired them. When I hear his music, I think it can't get better and then I hear something new and it makes me feel amazingly alive. I only hope that this is not the last of his work. I'm still hurting over the loss of Mark Hollis. But it's their lives, their autobiography and it's not about me. So thank you David for decades of genius creativity and art.

*I’m Changing The Voice I’ve Been Calling Out With...* This is so MELODIC! Sylvian's last decade has been marked by minimalist/nihilist experiments... but it's nice to know that David can still inspire with music! Found this quote: ⬇ _This was song recorded back in late 2011/2012. It’s a love song of sorts, dedicated to my adopted country, the birthplace of my children, an ode to the many travels taken through most States of North America, and to Joan with whom I recorded the piece. I attempted to capture something of the spirit of the best of country and western pop, the kind peddled by the likes of Glen Campbell or Willie Nelson (I’m sure they could’ve done a better job with it than I. Well, Willie, it’s not too late). It was recorded with the core trio of Joan Wasser, Parker Kindred, and Fred Cash. For reasons I can’t explain, I’ve been unable to release the track, so I offer this rough mix if for no other reason than my daughters would love for me to share it with you._ -David Sylvian Thanks for posting!

I can understand the move in the direction of Manafon and the feel-good more straight-ahead pop heard here. He does both extremes so well and so uniquely his own. Maybe as faithful D.S. listeners some of us long for the combining of the two extremes like on the ‘Brilliant Trees’ record and ‘Tin Drum’. For some reason I find the sentiment of these lyrics depressing. The singing is uplifting and so is the beat, it’s a traveling groove. We’re on a train, in a car, on a horse or we’re walking around. He always takes us on wonderful journeys.

I totally get it. I suspect so many of us measured our lives in some way by the time between Japan/Sylvian releases and our relationships to them and our lives... It was a big event when new works come out by any of them, the band, David, the members and the Japan family...YMO boys etc...
Brilliant. Fripp and the 'Gone to Earth' posse are necessary on this track and beyond!

As a lifelong fan of David Sylvian I must say, sadly, this song doesn't cut it. Sounds like American country music. Dear God. Hadn't known of this demo and now trying to erase it from my memory. I'd rather listen to his collaborations with Sakamoto for the millionth time.
@irishcowboy42
4 жыл бұрын
Saying you don't like a song is an opinion, thats the beauty of music in that it is so subjective but for you as a lifelong fan of Davids to say that it doesn't cut it is somewhat of a contradiction as to what he has stood for, for decades, if you have travelled from the back waters of brilliant trees to the high ground of manafon then you should know the result is to never to know what comes next, personally i would rather this than a Sakamoto (who i love) for the millionth time. Opinions eh....
