You have failed to test by moving the unit further behind the muzzle as well as below, therefore you have only made a partial test! Doing both movements may make a difference!

Believe me. I tested every position imaginable. I didn't include all the testing to keep the video watchable.

I just got a Wildcat MK3 tuned from Utah Airguns. They tuned it to shoot slugs at 920 FPS. They use the Labradar. I just bought an FX chrony and with that I’m getting 900-905 FPS average, a 10-15fps difference then what the gun was tuned for. Unfortunately, I don’t have other chronographs to compare.

How firmly planted were the experiment apparatuses set up? In other words, was the FX chronograph along with its stand of stacked pellet tins and the rifle safeguarded from unnecessary movement? I’m asking because bolt actuation and recoil might have caused both to move from shot to shot resulting in variations of radar return. Thus, these uncontrolled movements, although slight, could have significantly impacted the observed comparative inconsistencies in the experimental data. Just a thought towards eliminating one variable. To help find the ideal “sweet spot” place the chronograph at varying distances BEHIND the muzzle opening.

It was rock solid. Anyway, I'd say it proves my point that the FX chrony was not very useful in the real world as first realeased if any minor movement like bolt actuation were to change the chrono readings. The Chrony is supposed to make getting ACCURATE readings easier.

The other one is putting out numbers very similar to the fx how is any different? Or used to gauge then be negative results?

Wow thats the findings i was getting but mine for the qwik test i did i found the FX was recording lower then my full chrony at 1 in your vid is excellent looks like 4 to 5 in is the sweet spot more consistent i think i will have to try that to see if i can get the same results.. I think i will try the same setup with exact height will have to get me a little stand lol ... but anyways keep testing it i will do the same to compare to you r readings.. my full chrony is Competition Electronics ProChrono DLX that i am comparing to .. thanks for the vid.... more to come lol

Try moving the fx back from the muzzle an inch or so. How important is convenience, portability and ease of use?

Not more important than accuracy?!

You could try moving the chrono forwards/backwards as well as up/down.

I did in a previous video. Basically to get it to work consistently you need to attach it to the barrel.

Interesting data and experiment. I think your methodology is pretty sound. However I don't understand your comments about shot #4 discrepancies, given that the extreme values for that shot # were not reflected by BOTH devices. Had there been a true problem with that pellet station, then BOTH devices should have shown deviations in a similar direction from their respective central tendencies.

That is what I thought, too. I suspected that the 4th chamber of the magazine might have been causing the different readings.
