Hello Everyone!
Thank you for watching Day 5 of our trip to Duhok, Iraq (KRI). I am so excited to share my trip with you and show you the beauty that is the Middle East. I hope you enjoy these videos, and they can be a step in ending the stereotype that Iraq is a dangerous place. I pray that Assyria continues to live on through us and we shall never forget our roots. Don't forget to like and subscribe to my channel to watch future trips!
Live performances by: Stivan Simon, Walter Aziz, Charles Toma, and Sargon Youkhanna
AKITU: Akitu is the Assyrian festival and celebration that marks the first day of the Assyrian New Year! Traditionally celebrated as a 12 day celebration, with each day doing something different. This year marks 6774!
History: Assyrians are the indigenous people of modern day countries of Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria; as Assyria once existed amongst these borders. Going to Iraq, the homeland of our ancestors, is a big deal, especially for those of us in the diaspora, as we are able to see where our lineage comes from.
