So no words, no 911 call (neighbor spoke for her), and no interrogation-room recording/response. She knew and planned it all. very intentional from day one. The false allegations, the "text messages - that no one has confirmed with metadata actually came from the victim. The State woefully left too many grey areas and unanswered questions. What I’m also having a huge issue with is the fact that he spent over 10 plus hours with her and never completed an evaluation. As a Counselor myself this raises questions. I’m sure he’s very well versed in all his trainings. Isn’t this the same MH professional that was suppose to evaluate Jody Arius? Aside from being a credentialed professional myself I too have worked in family court criminal courts and DV. Im not seeing self defense here having for her to use deadly force. Hope the jury can see though it as well. They were both enmeshed in a co dependent relationship with each other and due to their relationship issues brought these things out. It’s not only a woman’s issue because not enough men speak out about being emotionally abused by women. It’s often thought just a woman’s issue and so far from the truth.

I went into this case knowing close to nothing, (except your pre trial info stream) and the vitriol towards Ashley in so many chats is shocking to me. The prosecution has provided no evidence of Ashley being abusive or manipulative towards him, nor have they provided testimony of people that described Doug as gentle, kind, or understanding. His texts and his testimony in court have shown that he WAS abusive towards her, and that she DID have reason to fear him. He lied to his lawyer saying he was going to live together with Ashley in FL, but according to her mom, he never lived with her. He even tried to buy/rent the house right behind her!!!! He couldn’t ask her for permission first because of the restraining order, and he knew that. She didn’t want to make him look bad in front of the doctor because they still have to leave together! What happens after the appointment is done? How would he retaliate to her contradicting him in therapy and undermining his authority in front of a professional? Arresting him at court and ‘making him look bad’ could also be seen as her wanting someone to believe and legitimize her fears, since FL courts refused to take action with the restraining order. Also, we don’t know if she said this because she knew Doug was going to be there, or if she specifically wanted the judge to see him get arrested- that’s how the cop interpreted it, not what she factually requested. These two things are not comparable imo. Based on how he treated the animals, I wouldn’t introduce him to the child as well- it’s not parental alienation, it’s protection. The testimony about him packing his things and her things together also indicates a lack of respect for her boundaries and autonomy, because it forces her to spend more time with him than she intended. She still had to coparent with him, so it’s not unreasonable that she called him over to pack up stuff. It doesn’t mean she lured him there-If there’s another reasonable explanation as to how/why things took place, the jury MUST side with the defense. Tl;dr courttv and law & crime have run so much misinformation pre trial, and I feel like people have most definitely come into this case biased against Ashley. The prosecutions case was incredibly weak, and just because ppl feel sympathy for Eva doesn’t mean Doug wasn’t abusive/making Ashley fear for her life when she shot him. She ran immediately to the neighbors and asked them to call 911- we heard her panicking on the call! He was still alive when paramedics took him, so idk why ppl are acting like Ashley is some cold hearted callous killer who didn’t care enough to call 911.

Okay no one seems to mention it and it's driving me nuts - Doug's 'stance' when he was shot. I live in a no gun country but i thought that the general known advice for someone being faced with a gun - is to make yourself as small a target as possible, which includes turning to the side. Doesn't it seem plausible that he was faced with a crazy woman with a gun, turned to the side and put his hands up to try to talk her down? She shot him (side chest), he turned with the impact/fleeing and she then got his leg? Or other way around - turns to run, shot in leg, then chest as he goes down?

Day behind the whole situation, hinges on the fact that she was trying to protect her child. No one who hasn’t been in that set of circumstances could understand the fear. And the constant trauma. And what lengths a mother would go to to protect their child. And abusive father never has to lay their hands on the child or the mother to still be abusive. And when the court says you have to share time, then you have to find other way to protect that child. So appeasement, time together, hoping and wishing and praying that things will change on an hourly basis, are all part of that messed up program. Because you’re stuck, and the only thing you can do is hope that something you do that will prevent them from hurting your child. And all reality, there is very little you can do. Trapped.

I think Doug may have been misrepresented himself as more wealthy than he was, they did the ballet, she got pregnant then realised this isn't the life she wanted. He was just a big mistake she'd made and she didn't know how to get out of it, she wanted a clean slate and he wanted to be in his child's life, also they were newlyweds still so he wanted to save the marriage. She realised that he was gonna be persistent in saving their marriage and she panicked. He may not have been a great guy either way but i do think she's making it all worse than it was, and she just buried her head in the sand hoping he'd go away. And when he didn't, she shot him not seeing another way out. Also i do not believe she actually told him in so many words that she didn't want to be with him, the various mental health professionals testified to it.

This is the 1st time I've watched a live trial with G without having watched the deep dives. 06:01:47 is super accurate. When I watch I'm trying to see what the State.proves in the court room. If they had additional evidence that they presented at the SYG hearing and chose not to present it here that would disprove self defense then the State has done a poor job of proving their case. In the end, it is up to the State to show the jury evidence - here and now - live and in person that leads them to conclude that she is guilty as charged.

It goes on and on and on and on. It took me back at first. I was angry but now I’m just disappointed. I understand people are allowed to have their opinions but dang, it’s quite nasty around here. Thanks for the comment about the reenactment by Ashley. Something was bugging me about it, but I didn't know what it was. Shooting downward - that was it. We typically hear how abusers want to control victims, and one way is to cut them off from family and friends. I realize that they don't often tell these people what is going on, but I'm curious about why Ashley didn't seem to have been cut off from people, like her mother. Good point about Doug driving her to her mother's house. Doesn’t fit. I doubt that he punched the dog into unconsciousness. Likely stunned it, so it was temporarily incapacitated. Not acceptable, but a good example of her exaggeration. Same with the box scratch. I, too, believe that the defense attorney is doing a pretty good job; however, part of the reason could be the failure of the state to object to things. In the cross-examination, the state appears to be trying to show that Ashley doesn't fit the profile of many of the characteristics of the wheel. I'm not sure that saying anything to show potential abuse by her would help them. It could come across as somehow blaming the victim. I'm getting an "OJ" feeling about this case. I agree that the state shouldn't have cross-examined Ferris.

I’m only halfway through this day, but so disheartened to see State out maneuvered by the defense. He’s a seasoned defense attorney. Prosecutors needed to outsource strong help with trying this case. They should’ve seen they were “outgunned “. Hope the jury can still see thru AB and her team’s charades but without the backstory it’s challenging.
@Cattydog11

And although some considerate parental alienation, in other ways, it can be considered protection. To try to keep the father off the birth certificate if they know the fate their child could suffer, or many other circumstances, it’s a desperate cry for a mother to protect their child from a fate they know could happen. And so many situations, police and other agencies can’t step in until after something bad happens a parent doesn’t wanna wait until their child is suffering, physically, since emotional distresse is so un often recognized, that if you don’t prevent it, no one else will.

Here’s another scenario: AB & DB are arguing, AB gets mad so storms off to the bedroom, grabs her gun out of the holster. DB eventually follows, when he opens the door, AB has the gun to her head threatening to kill herself if DB doesn’t give her full custody of their child. Doug tries to ‘talk her off the ledge’, as he starts to move slowly towards her to remove the gun, AB shoots low at DB who pivots to shield his body, the bullet hits his lifted leg, he falls down. But AB keeps shooting while he’s on the ground holding his leg. Then AB does 0 to help him with the wounds and flees next door.

Absolutely no one can say with certainty Ashley didn't feel fear of grave bodily injury or death while in that room on that night...true? However the burden is on the state to PROVE BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT that on that night, at that moment, in that space, she DID NOT feel fear. Logic says a negative cannot be proven. IMO applying the law to the case the jury would have to find her not guilty.

OMG your comment about pointing her imaginary gun down I picture her shooting Doug in the leg, he turns on his side to grasp at it and she shoots down at him hitting his arm and into the chest. It would explain the horizontal movement of the bullet. Or shooting and either missing or hitting his arm, he goes down to protect himself and she shoots his chest from the side and the calf. Makes the shot angles much easier to understand. Sorry for multiple comments but am in Australia and have a kid to get up for so rarely catch even the tail end of a live.

@Naveen-tx8be

The jury isn’t allowed to watch any coverage, so it won’t cause a mistrial. Doing an interview pre trial would give prosecution grounds to cross examine her on her prior statements. Prosecution fell flat on its face during cross examination because they didn’t expect some of her answers. This is exactly why lawyers tell their clients to shut up and talk to no one.
