*jots notes down on piece of scrap wood* *proceeds to take a picture of the wood with a pocket computer/personal assistant* Joking aside, this is a great series. I'm sure other people have wanted these kinds of videos. No lie, I wanted to start a channel called A Day in the Life and just send GoPros to willing tradesman. Like many fresh-out-of-highschoolers, I was paralyzed with indecision and could've used some direction. But I'm lazy, and here you are! And while I may never get into building homes, this is still fascinating. Thanks!

Hey buddy I am a finish carpenter/contractor. I don’t do stairs where I am (Nor Cal) plenty of stair co., but pretty much all the rest! And I learned Cabinet s for winter when not much going on ppl want cabinet work! I am teaching myself stair work slowly? I do all that craftsman trim that was in the house you showed! 75% of Trim work is having the tools! You frame you are past an apprentice stage! All I do is teach mitering, measuring, using saws correctly, reading a laser , all that stuff you know! So now you just break in with a partner learn diff architraves , returns ect.,. Trust me your not going to start over! Just a smaller nail!

Nice content…not a jab at you,but I’m really surprised to see how many guys,yourself included that keep their tape on the right side of your pouches,pull it out right handed then immediately trade it off to the left so that you can pull layout,using your pencil right handed to mark….I’ve always kept mine on the left to eliminate having to switch hands dozens to hundreds of times a day…to each their own.FTW from the big Island of Hawaii!🤙🌴

@@spencer4176 hey thx for replying I have 3 questions when you go into carpentry how good do you have to be with math and when going into trade school for carpentry how long does it take to finish and when working does it have a lot of effect on your body if it does where
@spencer4176
Жыл бұрын
@@wild1246 1) Basic math skills are required and definitely make you a more efficient worker. There's a construction calculator used for calculating rises and runs for roofing, but besides that we just use the Pythagorean Theorem to check square. I would rate the math level used in framing around 8th grade (in USA). 2) I can't answer anything about trade schools since I never went to one, but feel free to do your own research on this. Results might vary depending on your school, location, and trade. 3) I can't say you aren't going to damage your body but there are ways you can hinder the damage if not prevent it. I'm both a certified personal trainer and a long-time blue collar worker, so I have a specific workout regime that focuses on full body mobility and flexibility to prevent myself from getting hurt and keeping myself strong and able to do my job effectively. I'm currently 28 years old and have been doing blue collar work since the single digits and have yet to feel the decline of working in construction. These answers are from my own personal experiences. It's different for everybody.

Crazy, my day to day work consists of both trim and framing. If I had to pick a favorite, I am more of a trim guy. Love shaping and fine tuning all the details. I usually only want to be a framer if I have to adjust my work because of a poor framed!! But yeah, often can trim out a 2 story with 2-3 guys ina day, stairs and fireplace included. Usually accent walls are the only thing saved for later. Love those craftsman style doors though

Hello 1) I want to know if your job requires you to travel to a lot of places and stay in hotels? 2)Also, realistically I understand that I have to work a lot of hours if i start working as a carpenter but is there any roles that in carpenter that will allow me to work less hours when I become experienced? If you could answer both questions please that would be appreciated
@certifiedladderholder
Жыл бұрын
It’s possible you can travel as a carpenter, just depends on what you’d want to do. But most of the time you work in one area if you’re an employee. Also yes if you become experienced enough you can venture out into other roles in carpentry that only require a certain amount of hours. It all just depends 🤷♂️
