You need a high skill level and a hard enough task in order to be in the flow. This are the conditions. If the challenge is to easy you get bored, if is to hard you get frustrated. So the difficulty has to be somewhere in the middle.

Me watching other software engineers' days as a software engineer is somewhat sad but also interesting. :D I'm really glad that my retro & planning only takes up to 2 hours max. Otherwise, this would really kill my day. :) Best greetings from Germany :)

I organically came to the same finding: I had to accept that research is necessary and valuable and cut time out for it. There is immediate satisfaction when building and coding due to seeing the results and (Being in Control), and research (googling etc) feels like lost time (And seeking things out feels humbling and not in control) but then there are the nuggets of discovery that are really satisfying in research too, sometimes discovering solutions that will save weeks of work or re-direct your efforts in great ways. (This could be an analogy to biblical living) Then in such cases the research can be much more fruitful than being in the zone on a project that may be abandoned due to lack of research. (Spiritual Analogy: He who tries to save his life will lose it, but he who gives up his life will find it) (Academic Analogy: For any who have done a thesis, that's why we do the literature review in academia, to avoid coming across thinking we are a hero for doing some study on something completely unaware that somebody else has already been there.)

Hi Jackie, are you free to choose when you perform your hours for work? 🤔I find it easier to concentrate during the night with some good music and few distractions, personally I also find that it helps with more creativity than working during the day.

Heyy! I think it depends on the team, for me personally it is quite flexible as long as meetings are attended and the work gets done :) I get you, sometimes I also prefer focusing at night or doing early mornings and that is usually fine for us

Through studying, training and repetition a person can build autonomous pathways in the brain that enable the slower cognitive abilities to only focus on making high level decisions relative to the task at hand. During sport activities our vision consumes massive amounts of brain power and the emotional system is so neurologically bandwidth sensitive it can cause speech problems when someone simply experiences strong feelings. So sports people are not known for long intricate speeches that explore the outer edges of rhetorical ingenuity.

I’m honestly learning now some coding hopefully I will keep it up and change my career to something I like. We need some content on that (priority language, apps, motivation..etc). Maybe in your vlog can have more real life things when you go out also.

Next steps need to be perfectly clear. Feedback from whatever we are doing has to be relatively quick. There should also be no fear of failure (an element of playfulness, freedom to experiment). The environment and biology have to be in order. By environment, I mean no distractions, no anticipation of being interrupted, feeling safe. The biology - food and sleep. You won’t get into flow if you are sleep deprived. The same with food. Having eaten too much will make rest-and-digest to kick in and you will be too lazy. Having eaten too little will make you more irritative without sufficient will power to tackle hard problems. Happy flow everyone :)

Hi, Jackie. I love to watch your vlogs. I'm trying to learn to code, but with my full-time job, it's almost not possible to be fully engaged with learning. Do you think it is possible to learn to code if I practice 1-2h per day and become front end engineer in 6 months?
@CSJackie
Жыл бұрын
Hey! I think 6 months is ambitious considering you only have 1-2h a day. The process of finding a job in itself can take months. Think long term and remain consistent :) 1 to 2 years is a more realistic/conservative timeline from what I’ve seen and experienced. Good luck! 😊

Being in the zone or in the flow is the same thing. Here's a tip: listen to gamma brainwaves for 1 hour with headphones (youtube it) before working in coding (or whatever work that requires focus), and develop this habit. You will see very soon how voracious your brain becomes in wanting to work and eliminate procrastination. You're welcome.

Ensiferum - In My Sword I Trust (musica)
