Do you have any tips for dealing with imposter syndrome and executive dysfunction? I'm an Engineer in Canada and I always struggle with thinking I'm going to make a mistake until I just do nothing at all, and no matter how long I do something, I still feel like a beginner and everyone else knows something that I don't. its a real struggle!

Hi, thanks for the great question. That’s definitely a topic I have struggled with at times too! I can’t say I have the solution & I could (and probably will) make a whole video about this but here are some thoughts: - imposter syndrome: it helps to talk with others and realize that a lot of people struggle with this despite being great engineers. And for me it helped me to ask my manager exactly what’s expected of me because then I know, if I fulfill that, I’m doing my job. Then it just went away over time for me. - executive dysfunction: This one is more tricky because there can be a lot of different causes. To me it sounds like perfectionism is the cause for you where you make a task seem so intimidating that you don’t get started at all. What helps me is the always ask for a deadline when I get a task and to make sure that I have enough tasks to do at any given time. This might sound counterintuitive but when I have lots of things to do, I don’t have time to get hung up on any one of them and I just do them. I also like to make a todo list for the day but only write down the next small task needed for a given project, for example “schedule a meeting with x” instead of “work on the project”. And if I still have trouble getting started, sometimes it works to trick myself into working using the Pomodoro method. Then I set a timer for 25 minutes and tell myself that I will just try working for that time and then I can stop. But usually starting is the hardest part and I get into the task and then just ignore the timer and keep working. And sometimes I stop, take a break and then set another timer and just get through the day in little work intervals. It can be different from day to day what works. I hope this helps a little bit :)

A quick question, what major should I take if I want an engineering career which is most physics and math intensive.
@theannareich
Жыл бұрын
Great news, that gives you a lot of options! :D If you want the most math, you could go with Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. If you want the most physics, you should probably go with Electrical Engineering (limited to electrics) or Mechanical Engineering (uses all types of physics). Hope this helps :)

I like how there is a balance in the lifestyle in Sweden; work in the mornings along with sports at night. In some countries, instead of 9 to 5 job, it is like working constantly from 8 a.m to 10 p.m. 4:19 is that from Sims game? 😄

Yeah I had to think of when you put something in the way of your sims and they freeze on the spot and call for help. That's how I feel in the factory sometimes lol 🤣

Hi Anna, I hope you're doing well. I am not sure if anyone has asked this, but did you have a choice to work away from your main location? It must have been quite hard mentally to move somewhere for a short amount of time. Were there any incentives in doing so?

Hi Anna! I found your channel by randomly browsing in search to reegnite my passion for mechanical engineering. I graduate as Mechanical Engineer with minor in business administration last June, and after working as an intern and later full time on a tech logistics startup my passion faded away since i was not applying much of what i once loved. Thank you for making this videos, and motivating me to pursue the mechanical path again.
