Also if you go hit up thrift shops or look online you can score super cheap or free blankets and stuff they make a lot better padding than carboard or old tarps. I found like 6 big quilts that were really stained and dirty for free that i used for padding.

@JD10spd yes all are spread. On the step decks. You can close the axels at times. It just takes a little patience, and you'll be fine.

I picked up a load of this stuff going from outside Chicago to Fort Worth a couple of months ago. Pretty much impossible to 100% protect the tarps unless you’re rolling with a ton of packing blankets. Used all the padding I had, still ended up sliding off and ripping my tarps.

I’m not sure but I don’t see why they make you tarp that stuff. And they shud be forced to ship it with all those sharp edges covered themselves. Just my thoughts.

Yeah idk why it’s tarped either, they have tons of it just sitting outside lol. It would be awesome if it was pre padded cause it’s a pain to try and cover every single sharp spot

Thanks for the video.. how much do the meltom tarps weigh and how do you get them on tall loads like this one?

The black tarp weighs about 75lbs and the blue ones are about 95lbs. For tall loads the forklift operator will usually put them up there for you

If you work at melton they have tons of it for free at any terminal. Just ask someone in the inspection bay where it’s at. Other than that I think you’d just have to get lucky and find some at a shipper/cons or buy some

Hey man, I have 6 months otr dry van experience with knight. Would you recommend Melton to get into flatbed? I want to do heavy haul eventually.
@ianelbert
6 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s been a great company in my experience. We don’t do any heavy haul, but we’ll occasionally get “small” oversized loads that aren’t super crazy. As far as getting started in flatbed tho, you’ll learn to do everything the right way so it’s a good place to start if you want to open doors to get into heavy haul

@@sonofgod6389 If you have a basic understanding of maneuvering a truck, and show you’re willing and able to learn you’ll be just fine. I personally didn’t find it difficult, but about half of every orientation class fails. Mostly due to drug tests or having a bad attitude, from what I’ve seen.
