It was a dark , realistic style film the apocalyptic setting made you feel like it could actually happen. and it genuinely scares you and no other film or tv show has ever made scared of zombies like this film did. While Dawn of the Dead is my all time favorite film, I think Day is my personal favorite of the Romero Dead films. It's George's most pessimistic and it's also the most honest about human nature. Just like The Joker said in The Dark Night, when the chips are down people will eat each other. And I'm not talking about just the zombies either. That's not to say it doesn't have it's faults. Much like Land of the Dead it's the incomplete half of a whole. (That being the original version of Day of the Dead) It's just amazing George could come up with such bracing stuff when his back was to the wall after the original version got the ax.

I remember them talking about the soundtrack in the lil behind the scenes documentary- so weird to have this bleepy, kinda Calypso soundtrack for a horror movie, but it works SO well. I think Day is Romero's masterpiece. It's flawless, or near enough.

I call him "Bub." That's what the club fellows used to call my father. Can you imagine a surgeon called Bub? Nobody seemed to mind though. He was rich. My father was rich. He used to say that I'd never... I'd never be rich doing pure research. Never be rich. Uh, Bub's been responding so well lately I've let it live. Well is he alive or dead? Hah. Well that's the question these days, isn't it? Well let's say that I continue to let him exist. Hello Bub! Here are some toys for you. Some nice things for you to play with. You remember them from before... from before! He's seen the other things before but the book is new. Look Look Look. I thought it'd do that. Open it up.... It remembers! It remembers everything that it used to!

Although most class Dawn as the ultimate in Romero's zombie movies, for me Day is the superior, reasoning being it shows the total lack of humanity to each other the majority of the survivors display, it has a undeniable bleakness and desperation (best shown by Miguel) that I would imagine to be more true to the actual feelings real people would be experiencing. Put this together with some fine acting, notably Sarah & Rhodes & a killer soundtrack that hits all the right notes in all the right places it's got the perfect mix for how the end of the world would probably feel.

I saw this at 14. Snuck in, because they weren't letting anyone under 18 see it. When Sarah wakes up on the beach, a guy in the audience yelled "oh fuck that!" We were all keyed up and thought the movie was telling us the whole plot was a dream. 😂 This was so gory and stressful for an '80s movie. It's my alltime favorite zombie/horror film.

I don't know exactly why but I always felt that of all Romero's other installations, Day of the Dead was the most tragic. The closest guess I can make is that by this point in the story, everything just feels so unbearably hopeless. The main character is seemingly fighting for a lost cause (Warning: spoilers ahead) and as the film goes on, we just see that hopelessness slowly crushing her. If you nothing more than study her expression from one scene to the next, she looks so frustrated and tired. Like someone on the verge of giving up on everything. Even a she voices her reasons for carrying on her work, there's so little feeling or conviction in her voice. To be honest, Land of the Dead may not have been everyone's favorite but for me at least, it was a desperately needed bit of levity. By the end of Day of the Dead, there was the vague sense that those were the last people left in the whole world and all they were doing now was living out their last days in relative calm (not a bad thing but it doesn't give much hope of a "future" for humankind). That's one viewers take, anyway. Movies are art pieces with countless interpretations.

Just recieved this record on saturday, Day of the dead is my all time favourite film, alongside Dawn of the dead.. i used to love listening to the regular soundtrack but it was heavily edited and didnt contain as much, i absolutely love the score to Day of the dead, John Harrison is an excellent composer!.. Awesome job on the video by the way.

Out of all the Zombie movie scores this is my favourite. It's just so intense and completely fits the movie. Especially the end scenes where so much is going on, from the escape of the protagonists to the horrific deaths of the soldiers. The gentle ambient pieces are great too where you can almost feel a little bit of calmness amongst the horror. Awesome!
