I saw Panther 327 at the War and Peace show in the UK in 2015, then known as Panther 425. It was in quite a poor state, with collapsed suspension, rust and chipped paint. It's incredible to see the work that's been done on it.

Highest last digit should be a "5". That would make it fifth tank, second platoon, third company. There were exceptions. But in a company with seventeen tanks, there were three platoons of five tanks; so the last digit would be a five. Two tanks were for the company headquarters.

Careful neutral turning in the Panther, that's the exact maneuver that destroys their final drives.

Yeah specially for a 45 ton tank. That’s a lot of pressure.

2:52 (left on screen) I am guessing that Sdkfz 251 could actually be an OT-810, the Czech postwar version. Can you guess why ?
@AdamMann3D

It is an OT. dry pin track, not worth much, easier to beat up. A real 251 is worth way more.

It seems to me, that the track tention is not right on the Panther and thats its stearing system is not correctly adjusted! But what a beautiful restoration !!!!
@mulligan64

The tracks on that day were loose, as they recently installed new tracks for running outside. Now that steering system is right however, it did destroy the drive shafts because of the sheer amount of pressure that puts on the tank. Definitely a very good restoration on the tank 👍

Can you please explain the second part to me again. Which drive shafts? The two drive shafts which run across the vehicle or the once connecting the geerbox/steeringsystem with the final drives?

@@HaVoC117X So with the Panther tank, the final unit was really it weakness. So when a panther tank sometimes turns hard with the High torque method. (When the tank is revving hard) It increases the chance, to cause problems and failures in the actual transmission. As the materials got harder, they resulted to alloyed for the transmissions. That’s why they were getting unreliable near at the end of WW2.

@@mulligan64 Dont know mate. Yes the early and late Panthers had issues with the final drives. But they were generally not to weak by design: June 1944 edition of Nachrichtenblatt der Panzertruppen (Armoured Troops Bulletin), from a Panther-recovery tank driver's report: Unteroffizier Krause of a Panther workshop platoon has driven his Panther recovery tank - Chassis No. 212132 - 4,200km until 3 May 1944 without making any engine changes and without suffering any damage to the side reduction gears (Seitenvorgelege), gear change or clutch. Approximately 1000 km have been covered with a Panther tank in tow. The vehicle and engine are still in great condition and operational. The German WTD 41 is not afraid of pushing their Panthers for 40 years now. Take a look: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l52Mqmd_gH6VhnY kzitem.info/news/bejne/sqmlyn2knoN4rX4 It's a pitty that the aus armour museum doesn't show the real capabilities of that Panther, maybe they can work out the kinks which holding them back.

@@HaVoC117X Okay, thanks for that inside.👍 I did know that, their was quite a large amount of damaged to the gear box, because they’re restricted to some gears, they can’t get it into 5th, and 6th, and 7th gear. (I think those, while I was talking to the driver) that’s only While driving forward, idk about their reserve gears. The tank was restored by Axis Track Services (Bruce Crompton), they restored the tank with some Czech Republic engineers to fix most stuff. So maybe can’t be fixed…. Idk, if they can then beautiful 👍

not sure if this is true but heard a tank expert say that if a 45 ton Panther tank hits you at 1MPH it's the equivalent of a 1 ton car hitting you at 45MPH. Makes sense, i guess.

Did u also heard that, Panther tank has a projectile velocity speed of 936 meters per second. So imagine 1 ton car, shape of a bullet hitting a Sherman at 45mph 😰
