No doubt in my mind Serena was going to win this tournament. That is, until a FRAUDULENT foot fault call was made by the line umps paid out by Margaret Court. It literally resulted in a severe ankle injury. 4-5 different camera angles confirmed there was NO foot fault, and then Pliskova magically won as Serena didn’t win another point on serve; not ONE! Truly shameful by Tennis Australia.

Serena herself confirmed that her ankle didn't hinder her and had nothing to do with her loss. As she put it, Pliskova simply played "lights out" on matchpoints down. It was an awesome match, one of the best and most memorable in Australian Open history.

@@fundhund62 that’s called humility but the reality is she won that match on an ace and then hurt her ankle and the ankle injury impacted her for months so yes she did say she thought her ankle was ok in the moment , but she also said she wishes she called the trainer. Her coach also said she knew her tournament was over after that ankle roll, even if she had won she would have had to withdraw from Osaka due to ankle sprain
