Because there are too many, who want permanent DST. It won't be good enough, if _either or_ is chosen. The only thing that will resolve that stalemate is to compromise and do a one time adjustment to 30 minutes of permanent DST.

@@resetgang6638 No, it's not even unprecedented, there are several other countries that follow a 30 minute or even 15 minute differential, and besides that, US is a global powerhouse and leads the way. If it became an issue, locales would certainly change their ways and times. I don't anticipate such an issue though, since 30 minutes is insignificant in the grand scheme of things and fully manageable. American corporations would continue to keep work hours that match foreign partners. The time changes once, but humanity’s ability to work within a solid structure is essentially limitless.

Daylight savings time became law because kids were dying at bus stops from being hit by cars in the dark. The dark also made it easier to abduct and sexually assult kids. It was first tried on a trial basis. And the number of kid abducted or killed at bus stops was cut in half.
@GeorgeVCohea-dw7ou

This was a local scheduling failure, not a national time issue, and would most certainly not exist in this twenty-first century. No school would be permitted to start at a time that requires students to travel by darkness to get there. This just does not make sense and has to be an urban legend.

@GeorgeVCohea-dw7ou
6 ай бұрын
@@charleslloyd4253 Yes, I am aware of things being quite different in the 1970s, which caused year round DST to fail, but those issues are not present in this twenty-first century. It is trivial for anyone to Google the sunrise-sunset charts for their school location and come up with the optimal time of school open hours these days to prevent children from being in darkness. This was not really reasonable back then, and most authorities were stuck with bumping school start times to an hour later, which would have made those identical to the Standard Time and is still a great and easy solution for lazy administrators today. If US were to try Permanent DST again, it would not be planned for nor implemented in the same way, because of what society learned from that previous botched rollout. People were not so bright back then and, apparently, had no clue that simply rescheduling everything to be 1 hour later would absolutely put those in a timeline that they would expect it to be for Standard Time. In short, it's not about the time change, it is about how you adjust your schedule to fit it. My preference is to compromise and split the difference once and for all. This biannual superstitious ritual mumbojumbo is ridiculous and should end ASAP. US needs 1 time standard that people can adjust their own personal standards and schedules to, because the amount of daily daylight is exactly the same under any scheme that the government deems as the official time.

Stop changing the damn clock(s). I HATE springing forward...🤬🤬🤬🤬 Let us fall back an hour & leave it ALONE!!! You do NOT get more daylight with moving the clock forward 1 hour; you just lose sleep, which SUCKS!!! It's not good for our health. I need my sleep!! I do NOT need the hour taken away. Give it back & call it a day. This springing forward, BS needs to go!! Americans already work too much & like dogs, at least let us have the 1 hour back for sleep, damn!!
