@@787Detox Nope, Atlanta was not a tri-oval when this was made. Definitely filmed at Charlotte. Play it at quarter speed starting at 5:00 and when it gets to 5:05 you'll see (albeit blurry) CHARLOTTE on the wall as the 51 car goes by. Watch the clip for when they are talking in the pits and in the background you can see the Turn 1 Condos. Days of Thunder was filmed in 1990, Atlanta was reconfigured similar to Charlotte in 1997.

I've been to Hull's Drive-In, down not too far from Lexington, Virginia. A couple of friends of mine and I went to watch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The only problem was, that we had these two little boys with us, that constantly interrupted the movie, and one of the guys kept trying to be all kind and gentle with them, to get them to quiet down. Now, I'd paid good money to be able to watch that movie, but then blasted kids wouldn't shut up for nothing. Suddenly, having had enough of their noisiness, I spun around, looked 'em STRAIGHT IN THEIR FACES, and shouted "THAT'S ENOUGH"!!!!! Believe me, I'm not a mean person. I dearly love children...but sometimes, ya just gotta put yer foot down. They didn't make a peep, after that. Believe you me, they were as quiet as a couple of Church Mouses!!!

The funniest thing about the whole conversation within the first 33 seconds of this part in the film is Tim giving a rundown of Coles achievements as a racer. If you listen carefully and actually know your racing, it will stand out like a sore thumb. But for those who don't know racing very well, here is the error. Tim says that Cole runs mostly Indy type deals. 2 WoO (World of Outlaw Sprint Car) wins, 7 strait feature wins (assuming for the same series) and he's been driving ASA. Well, Tim. ASA is the American Speed Association which is a Stock Car based series. So how can Cole never have run a Stock Car before if he is currently driving ASA?? 😁🏁
@asymsolutions
10 ай бұрын
The retort afterwards sums it up "got yourself a real statistician there, does he know anything about the driver". He basically implied that Tim picked up whatever driver for hire he could find with a win list without understanding the context. As in Tim knows jack shit about racing, like the idea that a winner in Tennis, badminton or ping-pong could win right away in either of the two other sports. It happens in modern motorsport. We saw it with the FIA W-series, where a few female drivers were thrown into it because of their success in their previous series, ignoring the fact that a GT4 or TCR car has very little cross over to a F3 car and there would be a learning curve the other drivers did have. It's also happened with a multitude of male drivers in DPi and LMP2.

Don't rev 'er up, to where the Tach Needle's in the red zone, or you'll blow an engine. And watch your right-front tire. With the pressure it receives, going around all of the left-hand turns, she can blow on ya pretty easily, being that it's the tire that has the most down-force on it, going around those left-hand turns, during the race. And no banging against the outside wall...or anything, or anyone, else! Bad things tend to happen, when ya disobey any of those things! Those cars can get tore up, from the floor up, if any of those things happen! Movies like this sure are fun to watch...and you can learn a lot, too! See ya at the races!🏁🏁🏁🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲 5:55

Dale Earnhardt said the Lumina was a aerodynamic brick quote unquote. Nascar kept bending the rules to make it competitive. Not sure what you talking about. No comparison to the Thunderbird.

@@jclm4188 Incorrect. Dodge Daytona holds the lowest drag co efficient to this day with the Super Bird right behind it. The Birds nose was not as good as the Daytona nose.

Great scene but the track is Charlotte Motor Speedway. Even without a restrictor plate 31 seconds is impossible for a nascar at Daytona. In 1987 Bill Elliott set the track record (qualifying) with a top speed of 210 mph in just under 43 seconds. Races today aren’t quite as fast, with the Daytona 500 pole sitter having a time typically around 46 seconds and 194 mph.

Test was at Charlotte not Daytona. You can tell by the Quad Oval Section.

Cole Trickle just flat out at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord North Carolina top speed 175.980 miles per hour it reminds me of 1992 Charlotte test run Jeff Gordon just shot out of the canyon at 185 plus miles per hour his thirsty 1991 Chevrolet Lumina
