As a monogamous person, I dated a polyamorous person, and honestly it just hurt the both of us. I wanted to make it work because I loved her to the ends of the earth, but the thought of her being with someone else ruined my mental health for the next 10 months of our relationship. So no, even if I loved that person, I could never put myself through that tortuous mindset ever again. I learned that there’s so many more people in the world who would be on MY level as well.

I was poly for a long time and then got with my now fiancé - and he was monogamous. Like you said we thought it could work out - but it didn’t. It hurt him a lot so I stopped and now we are monogamous together. Being monogamous I thought would be hard but it wasn’t because I love him and I knew this was the best thing I could have done. To show him that being poly meant very little to me compared to keeping him in my life. It never works when one person is poly and the other isn’t. Now we’ve been together over 3 years. Cheers to you

I completely agree with you on this! Until they mentioned kids - my thoughts were what they do is their business (until they put it online 🤣) Now they've mentioned kids. Well. Their kids are going to not only be completely ripped apart at school because of them putting all this online, but they are messing their kids up! If this is what they want to do they need to keep it completely private for the sake of their children. Completely unfair on the kids - in my opinion.

As you perfectly said, they have chosen to be exposed to criticism and must face the consequences of that action. There is nothing stopping them from doing this but they are going to have to face the repercussions of their abnormal and not widely accepted behavior that will isolate themselves and their children from the norm. The fact that the children are most definitely going to have a harsh school life, (especially once they realize that their parents aren't normal) is, in my opinion, very selfish of the parents since they have made a choice for their kids that will drastically change their early lives for the worse and is where I draw the line!

I personally couldn’t be in an open relationship due to all the reasons you stated as well, and I think the people who successfully have them, all have very clear cut rule stated pretty early in their relationship. I knew of a couple in college that were into ddlg stuff and had a full on packet typed out that listed their roles, rules, what’s okay, what’s not okay, safe words, schedule, etc. Shittt they even signed it, making it a contract. Idk where they are now, but I assume things like this are more common than we think?
@mistererebos1818
Жыл бұрын
It is definitely more common than it seems, it’s just that many people simply keep it to themselves and those it concerns. Me and my partner are in an open relationship and quite frankly the rules are necessary, you need to establish them for the sake of it working at all. Set boundaries early on. It’s all like a guideline. Another thing is the need for a very open communication and fuck ton of already established trust. Otherwise it will just crumble down, turn toxic or both. It really depends on the two individuals, it’s definitely not for just anyone.
@highfae

Daz was right that it’s never love. Sharing can only happen when it’s lust. When it’s love you’re done, you’re claimed, you’re satisfied, you’re not looking for more, you’re _taken._ And on the other side, if you truly love a person, you would never consider hurting them in that way, you would never ever allow them to even doubt your sincerity and devotion, it wouldn’t even cross your mind if an opportunity came up, because your heart is always holding them even if your arms aren’t. The people who can consider open relationships are either damaged and traumatised by bad experiences they either witnessed in close relationships growing up or that they didn’t protect themselves from by properly vetting those they allowed to interact with them intimately. There is no love in it, just insecurity, just the manifested form of not committing to anything because you’re so afraid something better will come along, or that they’re wrong and you will make the same mistakes you did before, etc. Rather than using/hurting _more_ people, as many as you can get your hands on, just take the time *with you* to heal wholly, and then you’ll be a match to the One, who won’t have to change a thing to be the one you’ve always sought in every other. Every person you feel doesn’t fully embody what you’re looking for- *_you’re right,_* and that doesn’t mean settle for them until you can’t bear it anymore, just so you selfishly don’t have to be alone (and solitude is valuable for becoming an actual Person, not just a mindless sex zombie/dick puppet- it’s like the cocoon for the caterpillar, but most humans never become a butterfly). And everyone is awesome when you get to know them, but if you know they’re not ‘quite right’ for you, you are being unforgivably selfish and conceited to keep them from the person who the sight of them will be like a lightning strike to- their _actual person,_ who has been looking for them. Your preferences and gut feelings and ‘red flags’ are guidance telling you: close but not quite, keep looking. Never settle or ask a person to change because they’re just right for who they’re just right for, and you’re either keeping them from that connection, or postponing it by installing stuff on that person (as they ‘change’ in an attempt to please you/be the person you’re actually looking for) that they’re then going to have to go on a journey to unlearn. Everything happens for a reason, but imagine the beauty of a world where we don’t all rush into the wrong relationships with everyone else’s people, and waste so much time spoiling what should be reserved for only the One who will truly value it, not just discard you whenever someone else willing comes along; it’s actually sad, even if it’s not all at once, so many are technically in all of their past- and current- lovers ‘harems’, and no one deserves that, period. No one deserves more than one person. How greedy is that? (It comes from a conquest-based need for approval and affirmation for their insecure egos- so one just won’t do, they need a constant stream). And *no one* operating out of love, *would ever* make their person feel like just one of many- or let them be. I mean those people, in ‘open relationships’ are just like the people in bdsm or ddlg relationships- they’re just finding people who will tolerate their wounds, so that they don’t have to grow up and take responsibility and heal them. Just a bunch of lust-based people who don’t value themselves enough to demand someone wholly, because they don’t feel worthy of it, interacting with a bunch of people who can’t bring themselves to practice self control or discernment.

After a while we broke up and now looking back at it, I realized I agreed to the open relationship because I didn't really love him and never planned long term. As someone that's been very jealous of their ex boyfriend, and had a crush on a polyamorous guy, it is very difficult. I contemplated trying to go put with him over and over but hearing him talk about his love for his other girlfriend ripped me apart. Imo, there's nothing more fulfilling then a partner that has eyes for you and only you and wouldn't want anyone else but you. I can't imagine dating around other people and having my partner date other people as well. It would just make me life in a constant state of depression "Am I even good enough? Is she better then me? Does he love her more?" It would be way too much. If someone reading this is poly more power to you, I've known poly people and they've all been so lovely. Saying "The more love the better!" And that's a lovely way to be. But I just wouldn't be able to!

They don’t know anything about Love, only lust. Their definition of Love is lust, they got their wires mixed or had parents like these ones (in the video) who set a terrible example of the form ‘love’ takes, and they haven’t learned better yet. They’ll know when like lightning the person that their heart truly loves comes into their life, that they have never loved before. You can _care_ about a person, sincerely, truly, *that is **_not love._* Lust is superficial, temporary, Love is eternal. Most people who settle for less (which, we’re trained to) will never experience true Love, it’s a whole new tier of emotion and depth and authenticity they just don’t care to aspire to. You can move on from a person, or share someone, you only ‘care about’/lust after, but you would _never_ consider sharing the right person for you, you want them whole and to give yourself to them wholly- and there’s the rub: Love can’t exist without mutuality, as in, you’re in love with someone, who is equally in love with you, if they would consider sharing you, you know they don’t love you, and if they want more than you- it’s plain and simple: *you aren’t enough.* And what a disgusting person who would still be with someone they’d made clear wasn’t enough for them, what a greedy, fat piglet of a person- and then of course it becomes obvious that anyone who would accept that form of ‘love’ doesn’t truly love themselves, or they’d demand what they truly deserve: someone whole. Love is an impulse of *devotion,* if there’s ANY wiggle room in that desire to be devoted to that one person, it isn’t Love.

Pretty much agree with everything Daz said. TBH when comes this kind of relationship when children are involved (if the couple doing it have kids like these people) I can't get behind it. Like if a couple that is together (married) and having children at some point both equally wanting to be in this kind of relationship, at least wait until their kid(s) are adults with their own life and a place of their own, etc. I just personally think it isn't healthy for children that is growing up to be exposed to it (by that i mean the kids knowing about it and/or seeing randos come and go at their house since I remember a reddit story where this happened to someone).
@jadecoolness101

Keep your kinks away from kids. I don't care if the kids happen to share your genetics. It's different if it's outside of the house, but bringing random people home for your kids to see? And then you KNOW they are not being courteous and probably p0rno moaning, borderline screaming, the entire time. The problem isn't the open relationship, it's the lack of safety precautions taken for the sake of the children.

Even poly relationships experience jealousy. When that is 3xperienced it needs to be addressed in a healthy manner. If this couple is okay with outcry being part of their online presence (and they seem okay with the backlash) then that is up to them to handle. The more confident they are the less it'll bother them and their children and hopefully they're attentive enough parents to support their kids if the kids experience bullying.

I don’t agree with this. Marriage is a contract for commitment to your soul mate alone and should be a closed relationship. Open relationships lack discipline and respect for couples. Marriage is for life and the flings haven’t signed the marital contract

Some people bring in an extra person because after 10+ years it can spice up the bedroom. But it should be talked about, agreed by all three people, and lines drawn. Healthy relationships can exist with a visitor every now and again

For anyone who's curious about the line in open relationships, you can still very well be cheated on despite being in one. Cheating gets it's name from the fact that it is a betrayal of trust. Currently in a happy open relationship with 3 wonderful people. It's about being able to trust and confide in eachother. If any of my partners ran off and just screwed around with someone without saying anything, that would be cheating. But as long as we talk about it, and keep within eachother's comfort zones, no one's love is being cheated.

I think it's best if they kept it off social media. Even if their kids aren't allowed on others they know are and can easily come across this. They don't need to disclose to their young children who they are sleeping with. They should have some ground rules for eachother... Do it away from home. Have the other parent watch them while you are out. Always come home every night. Do not disregulate your kids' routines for your own se×ual happiness.

I agree with you on the fact that when you put something on the internet, you open your self up to negative and positive opinions... However, before I found out I was pregnant this past Saturday, my husband and I were talking about something similar. The thing is, some people have so much love to give, or they get excited over sharing their love as a couple with others and enjoy doing it together. We'd never have one on one with others and it wouldn't be frequent. If we still decide to do it, it wouldn't be until much much later as right now we want to focus on our growing family. Everyone has a right to give their opinion, but they do not have a right to assume things about someone that they aren't living the life of. There are plenty of ways people can express their disagreement without being Asses like some of those comments they were reading was. Cheating is anything that goes against the boundaries of the relationship and for others to say it's not a proper relationship is not only wrong, but can be turned around to them too, regardless of the truth.

Completely agree with this! I'm not poly myself but have friends who are, and to say that it's just "allowed cheating" isn't really fair, because the whole point is to agree on what is and isn't allowed. It's simply not cheating if both parties agree to it.

Personally I think it’s an awful idea for a guy to be in an open relationship. It’s so much easier for women to get sex and from what I’ve seen the guy is always the one who ends up struggling to find anyone. Whilst his girlfriend is out shagging other men, he’s just sat at home thinking “well this is really shit” 😂 And before you ask, no this wasn’t me lol

When I was in a relationship, the thought of my ex being with someone else was absolutely gut wrenching! I don't know if she ever did cheat on me, now I couldn't give a flying fuck! But she was the love of my life and I wouldn't have wanted to "share" her with anyone. If these 2 do genuinely love each other and are really 100% fine with their arrangement, then that's good for them. Me personally, it's something I wouldn't do.

My best friend has an open marriage with his husband and it works for them both well. They sleep with other people and sometimes include others in their sex. It is not for me but I have seen it work with them and I respect they are able to have a good stable relationship that is open. They do not see sex and love as the same thing and say they are easily able to not link the two together. I respect them and their relationship, for me I am much more like you Daz. I can't separate love and sex in my mind and need to be attached to someone in order to even have sex personally. But each to their own.

My take is people can do what they want, whatever makes them happy. People will say what they will, and trying to hide stuff like that in private its "worse" when it gets out. Let your freak flag fly and dont hide yourself in the shadows. People will eventually have to accept the truth. People will judge, but i think its easier to face judgment with confidence rather than shame.

There's nothing wrong with this type of relationship if they both consent, respect each other's boundaries, and communicate. I wouldn't do it personally. And it should be normalized that different types of relationships exist. Too many toxic relationships exist because people follow arbitrary relationship rules that may not work for them.

@@vampyr.cryptid hi! I was the one who said that, and I stand by it. The examples I brought up were: open ‘relationships’, ddlg, and bdsm. Why would a healthy person be unable to commit to one person in a loving relationship, but would rather use people like cigarettes, treating hearts like meals? Why would a healthy person simulate child abuse, which is rampant in the world (pedophiles ‘just like different things’ too- it’s a slippery slope of indulgence that starts small, like as a ‘kink’, but then since you’ve normalised and allowed it in yourself for so long, is acted out if an opportunity ever shows itself to them; this is perfectly exemplified by the ddlg kink which is both fed by and feeding the literal molestation and rape of daughters by their fathers, which numbers in the millions in the U.S. alone- when unhealed women allow themselves to be treated this way because they haven’t dealt with their trauma, and indulge the perversion of a man who wants to do this, and will be more inclined to when women are willing to do it with him as if it’s ok, and then he goes on to rape his own or someone else’s daughter, who then doesn’t know how to deal with her past experiences- it’s a vicious, self-perpetuating cycle; it’s the _festering_ of a wound rather than the healing of it)- and why would a healthy person want to hurt or be hurt by others? The reason you didn’t address my comment directly, must be because you don’t actually have an argument to the points I brought up, just an opinion borne from your own unhealed wounds.
@peacebaby8693
Жыл бұрын
@highfae I'm not reading all that, but just gonna say you need to open your worldview and understand that people like different things. It could be related to trauma but not always, and doesn't really matter if it is. Just mind your own fucking business, it doesn't hurt you.
@vampyr.cryptid
Жыл бұрын
@@highfae 1 sex and love are two different things, I'm on aroace spec h have the capacity to love someone but feel little to no sexual attraction to them. If all parties consent what's the issue, it's just sex 2 I didn't address the ddlg thing cause I also think it's a bit weird but as long as it's not actually including children and everybody consents to it then it's not hurting anyone, just don't involve me in it. 3 so you're saying kink comes from trauma and hurt. Could you please tell me what trauma make my girlfriend enjoy wearing a fabric mermaid tail and being in a body of water during sex. I'm genuinely interested what has hurt or traumatized or hurt her so much she now enjoys this? Kinks can come from trauma but not all of them and again as long as it's consensal why are you so concerned about what strangers do? Like have you ever actually spoken to a couple into kink? Those are usually some of the healthiest relationships out there due to the sheer amount of good communication needed for it to work from safewords to boundaries (which should be part of any intimate activity regardless of any kink involvement)

My question is why do people feel the need to broadcast these lifestyles? We all have a way our lives. It's not beneficial information to anyone, it's just you seeking attention and not appreciating the reality that not everyone will respond the way you want. It's no different from the daughter who claimed she wants to be naked with her mother? Like why does anyone need to know that information? That's the question I have for all of these people.

Here's my take on it. I have issues making male friends because they keep wanting or trying to screw my girlfriends behind my back. Then I get some gfs that wonder why I don't try to make new friends but when I do these are the guys they cheat with. So no, cheating doesn't work for me and open relationships are a no go. If you want to screw someone else just get the hell out of my house and don't come back. I've had several try to come back after I caught them cheating and the other guy didn't want them besides for a fling. The sob stories are great. They didn't mean to, it meant nothing to them or other stupid lines. I won't tolerate any of it and they never were allowed back into my home.

Honestly, if it works for them, great. However, they can't be upset when people confront or disagree with them because their opinion differs. I, personally, tried being in an open/poly relationship and it just led to person A being passed that we were no longer exclusive after some time and an eventual breakup. Would never try again. As for their kids, I feel like it might be okay to tell them for sure when they're a lot older. It can be confusing for young kids to grow up in a dynamic like that, which could lead to their own misinterpretation of relationships farther down the line
