Crazy how GT Goku, Broly, and Vegito were all released from jail for terrorizing the game but Bardock still isn’t allowed to be good.

Having played bardock a lot back in the old days, I always was saddened by how little his combos could be optimized. He had and has a lot of unique properties on ground and air M lariats that could facilitate a lot of unique combos without necessarily requiring Smash property, if only they had a few frames more hitstun or slightly different hit angle. Not to even mention that back in the day, bardock's L lariat had WAY better frame advantage, making it a potent round start tool and could be used to reset his stagger game endlessly. It pains me how close bardock is to being a monster, so many small changes that would have a world of difference in his gameplay.

JUSTICE FOR MY DAY 1 BARDOCK: - 236X and 214X should reflect Ki Blasts - The 236M followup after 236H should lead into a combo without vanish. - 5M should be faster/reach farther (not Vegito farther but maybe SSJ Goku range to beat reflect) - 2nd hit of jM should only come out on hit - Maybe asset flip the Lvl 1 projectile for a 214S beam-property projectile?? - More C Assist Blockstun, 35 is garbage for a C assist

1.) I can explain the 214X (Rising Meteor) change. If you're in Spark and use his gut punch, it has so much built in blockstun that canceling into 214H BEATS REFLECT (gut punch > SD is also a true blockstring even midscreen). If he's in Spark, you have to hold his 22F overhead no matter what if he lands his gut punch. Canceling again into j.236M after 214H is an OS. If you land his overhead, you get a full combo. If it gets blocked, you keep yourself safe. And Bardock still has his other lariats which still jail, so it's a bit of a mix-up based on whether he swaps sides or not. Obviously, you call an assist. 2.) Bardock's lariat is archaic by today's standards, but it seems like the idea is that Bardock is ALL Spark. He can even combo off of EX lariat meterlessly in Spark, so that problem is "Fixed". Once he's in Spark, he actually becomes a real character. And as I've seen, he does obscene amounts of damage. IDK where I'd place him in the tier list, but I do think that because of Spark, he has potential. Just play him with a lockdown assist and a neutral assist to help him out

Great vid CD, well said about all the gripes with this archaic kit. How they didn’t give him some form of ki blast invulnerability at least on EX lariat is baffling. Speeding up 236S was long overdue but I would have taken the 2nd half of it and made an entire new move and put it on 214S. Like a fast ki burst type of move that beats all projectiles and maybe even beams. He deserves something mega ignorant.

Also I think 20f gut punch is being understated. In spark he now has a 20f startup special that leads into SD true string 50/50. He’s also one of 2 characters that gets true string 50/50 from A2A jL and the only one in the game who gets it solo I hate that Bandai is scared of his mix being too good but at least that’s the mixup structure he has best at

@@ShaudL if it didn’t require sparking to SD cancel I’d agree with gut punch’s mix up setup. Bardock having that for sparking duration is nice, but some other characters have that without sparking (blugeta if you can’t reflect the tiny gap between BBA’s charge up and firing.) Js has upwards momentum for Bardock that maintains while he gatlings into Jh. If you js jh while jumping, bardock’s ex lariat flies over the opponent’s head.

Making a patch where you give everyone all this crazy shit and then giving a character who barely gets anything from system mechanics such an underwhelming buff is so frustrating, they did so little right with this patch

Changes: 236L: Agreed, I feel like the 'buffs' it got were really just for the Sparking change, and not because they actually wanted to buff Bardock. Raging Meteor: One thing to note as well is that Bardock's 214L/M/H all count as aerial moves, which means you can get 2H'd out of it. Considering Bardock's main mix-up strategy in recent times is now more reliant on his cross-up j236M, opponents will be more likely to get ready with a 2H on reaction. Sure, Gogeta 4's is the same way, but at least the M/H versions leave you +2 for another turn, whereas Bardock is -5 for all. I guess, granted, I never really used Raging Meteor in my strings, so it's not a real issue for me specifically, but this is still a questionable change that I don't fully understand yet. 236S: The buff is cool, I had ways to use it without worrying about 5L before (spacing them out with 5S), but now I don't need to think too hard about it. I just _wish_ that if they were gonna give this to him, they also gave Bardock a way to convert off of it midscreen with a Superdash. I mean, they gave beams and Gogeta 4's 236S SD confirms, why not Bardock? I'm also _half_ convinced they sped 236S up only because of the Sparking change, and not because they actually wanted to buff Bardock. Problems: Skip Neutral options: EXACTLY! Bardock's 236H, while faster than its equivalents, needs more resources to get anything meaningful out of it, and loses to more options. Gogeta 4 is the perfect example of this since it's medium scaling, gives full combo from anywhere, and fully projectile invul. And they're telling me Bardock can't even have a few frames of just ki blast invul or SD confirm it? Mix-up: Yeah, his jM not functioning as a consistent cross-up is annoying. I know you can j236M for that, but on top of it being more effort than other characters who already have better mix-up options (sometimes I even input it _too_ fast and get same-side j214M instead of cross-up j236M), it doesn't hit high and can be blocked low. Overall: It's insane to me how insistent they are with keeping Bardock in the trenches. I wouldn't mind that so much _if_ they kept everyone more or less the same, but they clearly showed in this patch that they have no issue giving the wildest buffs, some entirely new moves or even system mechanic changes, to characters who didn't need them (Vegito's weakness of fullscreen presence was basically negated now that he has a 6S>3S confirm, S Broly's passive meter gain and 5LLL building a whole ass bar), so I'm just sitting here like "Why the hell did they not give Bardock _anything_ even remotely close to that?" They even did stuff that completely invalidates Bardock's equivalents (again), like Gogeta Blue; Gogeta Blue's 2L not only moves him like 1/3 of the screen, but it's also attached to a character that could easily set up 50/50s with his rekkas, and they decided to make it 7 frames instead of 9. That's as fast as Bardock's 2L which moves him nowhere and only really serves it purpose in the universal SD mix. If that isn't injustice, I don't know what is. Maybe my impression of this patch is further soured by the fact that Hiroki stated ArcSys would be involved in it, which gave me genuine hopes that the direction they'd go in would lean more towards improving competitive balance, like adjusting frame data with that character's strengths and weaknesses in mind, some QoL changes like Bardock's 5S>236H not dropping in the corner, etc. So seeing what we _actually_ got just felt even worse than it would've had I not gotten my hopes up. I can still see myself playing the game, I've been playing it all this time and don't really plan on dropping it just because of this, but I'm also just saddened by what they did (and I'm someone who even liked the patches before this, this is the only one I'm honestly negative about). The game could've been so much more if they actually paid attention to its competitive scene and listened to the opinions of the very players who've pushed the game to its very limits and stuck with it throughout the years even when other titles like SF6 and T8 came out.

9:40 also Gogeta's lariat (and most lariants in the game) have medium starter scaling. Bardock's isn't even that. All it has is range and a bit more speed. Really bad
