McFarlane Toys is the reason why I started collecting DC figures again. Some of their figures may lack accessories or paint but the sculpt work makes it very cool. Why I stop collecting DC years ago is because DC Collectibles keeps cancelling their lines and multiple QC issue, Mattel doesn't look good in my opinion and it felt like they didn't listen to fan feedback. It was more or less an industry truth for decades. With some exceptions, Kenner's old ALIENS line it was the Aliens that sold well, to the point the human marines were discontinued. Though, Todd does mention monsters can be popular. Hasbro stopped making any female characters in boys' action figure line from 1988-1992, regardless of supporting media having them (Visionaries, C.O.P.S.). Modern females? Rogue One's Jynn Erso failing across multiple lines. Or Five Below having Maz Kanata Black Series lingering for some time at closeout. Part of the hype back when comic nerds started to ruin toy collecting was "short packs" but females, if they ever got made, were short packed for a reason, they sold less units. No surprise when those types and scalpers don't have interest in an action figure series, the female characters often peg warm.

I don't give a single crap about the business perspective, we still don't have a classic wonder woman, or zatanna, starfire, or a black canary and that is inexcusable because my justice league collection is so close to being done I just need a Barry Allen flash and a classic wonder woman and it would be so easy to just rerelease flash and make a classic wonder woman but instead Todd McFarlane sitting on his ass wants to make a whole wave of black lantern batman , superman , and firestorm yet we still don't have a regular firestorm or even a new 52 green arrow and Dr. fate we only have the injustice version of those, we barely even have any Harley Quinn's and we have no ravens, there is no excuse for him making over 20 batman figures but ONLY 2 batgirl and no bat woman.

When he talks about being a 9yr old without a lot of money it shows in his figures. He's kept the prices down and they're affordable. I have a lot of respect for someone who doesn't forget where they came from and what it's like to be less fortunate. I'm an even bigger fan of his after watching this! Thanks ShartimusPrime!!

Man, I love Todd! I remember how real he was in Shart's last interview. I love how honest and forthcoming he is, he literally told us how much the transport costs have risen. If this was Hasbro, they'd keep everything close to their chest, even though they're a public company and have to disclose a lot of their financial info. McFarlane is a private company and he has no obligation to talk about any of this, but he spills all the tea. I love his justifications for the decisions he makes regarding the toys, you don't really think of the reasoning behind things until they're spoken about. I did have a feeling the side eye was to alleviate the dead look that most figures have. And yeah, huge respect to him for putting us and the product first and then the money, Hasbro and other companies continue to exploit us with their price increases. I do wish that McFarlane would perhaps give more accessories with each figure rather than release a whole different figure with the accessories we wanted, e.g. the unmasked variants.

I wonder if he tells them about the side eye on all the dc figures and telling him to fix that because it’s really not necessary and it kinda ruins the figure. I kinda want a recall of the Henry Cavill Superman figure with interchangeable hands and a fixed neck pointing straight up instead of bent forward

you could've asked him if he ever intends to release classic versions of DC characters, it was one of the most obvious questions you could've asked and one of the most important info we could've obtained from Todd. I don't exactly believe him when he's saying that he was able to maintain prices because he's a private company because the plastic on the latest releases are clearly subpar compared to the releases from the first two years, so I don't care much for self-advertising, but I definitely cared about him being willing (or able) to release classic versions.

he is 100% right about the female figures, its only adults with female issues that keep wanting female figures in an action figure line. tho yea some main females are ok but people want background characters like they are on the same level of the male hero or villain.

@@ta21l stfu dude with that "misogynists" crap he is selling to mass market where their are sections for boy and girl toys that don't mix, and you of course missed the part where i did some main females are ok, how is that different by you crying popular ones wont get made? he just said he won't do a whole wave of female as he wants buyers to be able to find male characters in the boy section. but really you guys get so butt hurt over him saying no to a full wave when the wave is only 4 figures. and for the record he is right if i was a kid and was rewarded a female character over male ones that were also at the store i would be upset AF over it.

This was an incredible glance into the multiverse. Less side eye, weapons packs, maintaining price, a real look into the logistics and finance, and a look at the rational behind character and articulation choices. EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED to see todd embracing NFTs. But it's inevitable 😕 Thanks for picking the brain of Todd Shart, really enjoyed this video

I have no agenda against Todd but I don't fully agree with his view on female figures. I understand that young boys do in fact want characters like Superman or Batman over wonder woman, but that doesn't mean all young boys have the same desire. Plus, we collectors actually like the female characters, so to please the young boys, Todd seems to be willing to lose all the older collectors who like diversity in their collections. When I was young, I wanted female characters along with males because it makes your collection much more diverse. Overall, Mcfarlane's Superboy prime action figure is solid-I love it, but he definitely should not go down the road of "superheroes are best when male".
