Great work overall on this retrospective! My feeling about these events: - World's end: The Earth 2 general story was good, but this felt like a rushed and cruel ending for this universe. - Future's End: Timetravel is my thing, so i was interested, but none of the setup was properly concluded (50-Sue, the Earth 2 genes, Brainiac, What Batman did to Superman, Terry). - Convergence: "Hey, were moving offices, how about some random stuff?". It gave us John Kent, and Dick+Barbara Post-Crisis, so Im good. The concept of Brainiac being Multiversal was previously hinted and really neat, but it failed bad. My main issue was not the concept, not even the random Earths (as you made sure to comment), it was the execution, and how it was anti- New 52 due to how heavy it was on continuity. If the event was only about "Same as Brainiac collects planets, the big bad is a Multiversal Brainiac that collects realities", it would be better, but the end is Brainiac stored on a ball (good luck if you read Future's End).

VERY GOOD WORK!!! It's funny you say these historic segments take away from the show SHAWN because last night or the night before I was thinking about how my weekends center around 2 comic book channels. The other ones for laughs, and while I do get some of that here, this channel fills my itch for the history (my favorite subject) of comics, though I also enjoy the other aspects of this channel. I hope you do this more often, because I have enjoyed the 2 or 3 of these "history podcasts" sections of the comic book industry that I've seen, and I need to look back to see if you have more of them. Because I have caught 2 or 3 of these history segments over the last 3 or 4 months (i think) I have always felt that it wasn't a hinderence but it was part of the show, and I thought it was part of the shows blueprint. I hope it becomes part of this channels blueprint if it isn't, because I feel many feel like these history segments are part of this channels program, and they are my favorite parts of your channel. There are countless channels that do celisits for upcoming comics or reviews of comics they read, and there are channels for history also, but this channel blends them all and in doing so makes this channel unique.

I basically did a speed run of the New 52. I got into comics in 2014 and was told just start with the #1 of the hero I was looking for... It was Green Lantern one is the two that DIDN'T truly start over. I was so confused but it started the comic journey. However, I nearly quit with Rebirth bc it was my first "your era of comics suck" relaunch to bring back this continuity of another generation of readers. It was how do many eras of fans have felt time and time again. But instead of quitting, I sucked it up and joined the club. My Earth-2 nobodies and Red Lantern Guy Gardner and Red Hood and the Outlaws references will come in about 10 years when a New 52 fan runs creative. You just watch.

Hey guys. Sorry I missed the live stream, and wanted to get to the re-watch as soon as possible to catch this last instalment. This was great. Thank you for all the hard work you put in, Sean: what an epic Deep Dive! Ironically, despite all the negativity and errors you've described concerning its inception, your deep dive has got me to read a lot of New 52 books over the last 3 weeks, and I've had fun with them. Great job! Hope you get to take a beat this week, Sean, and see you all on Thursday!

Thanks a bunch Steve! Really appreciate the kind words. I've largely enjoyed the New 52 books I've re read or read for the first time while working on the Deep Dive, and I'm sure there are more hidden gems that I haven't read. Maybe one day the conversation around that era will change and more good books that were ignored will emerge.

DC/MARVEL solution to expanding the fan base to their superhero characters in the 90s was via ANIMATION. For the 21st century, it NEEDS to be video games. Arkham and Spider-Man games have done for the last generation what Batman animated and X-MEN animated series did for kids in 90s/00s.

Video games were very much apart of that boom you're talking about in the 90's. They've been great vehicles for superheros for decades.

@@TheComicsPals you’re not wrong. I guess I mean video games have become so MUCH BIGGER an alternative as a form of entertainment for the mainstream today that it may be the first entry point for many, in some cases before even films/comics/movies/animation. Video games have certainly replaced professional sports as the most involved past time, for certain.

As for Didio's comments, it all sounds very fair, new ideas, new books, but he even dares to mention Voodoo (we know what hapoened with that), the fact is that they didnt take care of those new ideas, it felt more like shock value, that was later just left to the wolves.
@TheComicsPals

That's a good point. Why take a chance on Voodoo if you're not going to set it up for success?

Great show! Appreciate your hard work in sharing the information on this era of DC. I think with so many titles being released at once, it may have been hard for people to pick up all the books they may have wanted due to many reasons. Maybe if the titles of lesser known characters or new ones were more scattered in release, it may have been less daunting for the consumer to give it a try. Hindsight 20/20. Risks are part of the business. If it worked, Didio would be called genius. Market did not work out that way in the long run.

This is a great review of the DC 52. I think Dido remarks on the direct market was so interesting. It makes sense why he wanted to try something that could break out of the current direct market with 5G. He thought new 52 wasn't big enough and 5G was his chance at a redo.

On Dan Didios Comment and Stagnation - Then why have all the characters been the same age for 90% of their stories for 90 years..... Both of these companies (Marvel and D.C.) are stagnant universes.

Do you think part of the Image explosion was helped by New 52? That brought in new readers and as they continue to buy the DC books they may be interested or sold on Inage titles, and/or people who were unhappy with the reboot jumped off DC and found something new within Image. I guess it would all be anecdotal, but the speculation intrigues me.

2:20:00 SHAWN ON - talking about minority creators not being part of New-52.... Also story wise. This would have been perfect time for more minority characters because many of them I feel can sell. Static-Shck should have been a major character in New-52, and if Absolute comics is about starting from the bottom than many Milestone Comics characters should be in the lineup, but like the New-52 they won't be... Milestone should have asked to use Absolute Event on their own if need be, because all their characters start from the bottom. Calling it right now - DRAKE'S Started from the Bottom is the Absolute Comics theme song.
