NOTE: This model railroad video is not intended for anyone under 14 years of age due to the use of small parts, dangerous tools, electrical items, glues, and paints.
Note: This video has much better sound than the previous one since I am now using an external microphone.
This video is about how I am doing the DCC Electrical Planning for Main & Third Levels. I have printed out another layout plan, this time at 400%, which allows me to easily see the track plan so I can annotate the different power buses (4 will be used for these two levels), the places where I will have to use insulated track joiners (e.g., hash marks across the tracks at the end of a turnout), an arrow for where I plan on adding track power feeder wires, places where I need to allow for the use of SPST switches to cut power where engines will stop for long periods to include associated LED feeders, and a designation for each power fed section (usually a two to three letter abbreviation for the town, like SA for San Angela plus a number for the feeder). The example used in the video shows a couple of feeds transferred from the planning document to the "glued down" design. This allows me to also estimate the amount of electrical supplies needed, such as terminal strips, male & female connectors, etc. Additionally, since the design plan now has the annotations on it, I can also use it do some planning as to where to install special electrical items (such as switch-its for Tortoise machines and frog juicer circuit boards) which will have to have some room allocated under the layout someplace.
