Quite an interesting video. I purchased an array of DCC Concepts products. I am starting a new layout using an NCE system, and my first plan is to make Cobalt point motors work with Alpha A Switches and using the push button switches coupled with the transmitters and receivers. I enjoy all the videos as there is so much to learn here - like using a 9V battery as opposed to the 12V DC power, as I need 2 DC sources for my transmitter and the Alpha Switch A, as they point out they need different DC power sources, and I am putting all this into a wireless box. They don't say "why" this separation of DC sources is necessary, but I'm not really questioning this. I'll let you know if all this works!

I am always interested in learning something new and this is a great example of something useful. In my case, my layout is DC and I live in Toronto and it is shocking what some are charging for postage. I don’t know what this unit would cost but I imagine the cost of postage would be close if not more than the product. This is the cost of living in the colonies🤣 My simple manual method of wiring led lights will have to suffice at the moment. Thanks for posting and a great explanation👍

Looks a great idea. Will think about how to add to my new layout as the build continues. Not sure if I would be able to use the idea on our club layout as the Treasurer is smarting at our request to buy 18 iP Digital motors!😀

I use servo motors to operate my points and signals. will the esp work with them. The other thing is where is the common for the point etc fed from. I like the idea of this system.

Next step is a sound chip in the signal box so bells ring in the right sequences for the signalling etc.

Ironically, that's a cool idea...got me thinking now as I have the Ratio Signal box with lovely Will WM interior to build and a spare bell from a Faller kit! 😁

I like the idea of wire-free operation! The trouble is you need quite a lot of kit just to control a few functions: The ESPS.3, ESPR.1, an accessory decoder and levers or switches - that could get quite expensive if you have a lot of points, signals and other things to operate.

Only one receiver is needed on the layout, James. ESP is great for controlling digital accessories but it can also communicate from the layout back to a panel. Imagine detection on multiple sections with no wires at all back to the display panel. There is more information and videos available on our website if you want to see some further applications of ESP. ^RB DCCconcepts

Sorry to be a bit a bit picky, but putting circuit boards on metal rails is a great way to short them out.

Hi great video, I was told I cannot use esp because I have solonoid peco 20e points and it affects the signal of the esp. ?

An interesting and clear video Jenny. I can see a benefit if one was selective ie to operate points that are hard to see if you have a large layout. Just to clarify, is your ESP receiver fitted before the power booster so the last thing the track gets is the higher track power?

Jenny has put ESP on her main track bus. As the receiver is limited to 1.5A, this would limit her layout power, so putting it before the booster ensures the layout maintains 5A of track power. The receiver can then inject accessory commands directly onto the main bus with no need to worry about power requirements. You could alternatively create an accessory bus with the receiver which could be lower power to operate things like iP Digital motors. This would negate the need to boost the output as only the 1.5A would be needed. Hope this helps :-) ^RB DCCconcepts

Yes the ESP is inserted after the alpha Panel but before the booster so that the layout power is not restricted.

Yes. That’s pretty much what I have as I have an Alpha Central panel elsewhere.

good review of the ESP but do the points need to be decoder fitted too? How does that bit work? (sorry newbie question, lol)

Yeah.. Across the pond wondering same thing. Obviously, yes, I'd think turnout motors have to first be decoder operated...So forget this if we're just analog motored and ground throw ops.. My ESP is telling me this is getting way out of hand....

Yes, this is for the control of digital accessories. ESP was developed to avoid the need to use DCC handsets to change accessories such as turnout motors and signals. It also avoids the need to have large amounts of wiring under layouts, meaning everything can be simply connected to the main DCC bus. We have more information on our website and KZitem channel. ^RB DCCconcepts

It is wire free as it does not need any other devices and does not suffer bandwidth saturation which wireless does.
