The DCED webinar 'Social Dialogue for Business Environment Reforms: Insights from North Macedonia and Tunisia' originally aired on Wednesday 30 November 2022.
BER outcomes are improved when dialogue underpins the demand for reform and informs the design, implementation and monitoring of reform programmes. ‘Social dialogue’ refers to such a dialogue, typically between two or more labour market stakeholders, including governments, workers’ representatives and employers.
But dialogues can raise questions, for example; how can the sustainability of social dialogue be ensured in the context of staff turnover and institutional knowledge being lost over time? Is a formal or informal approach to the social dialogue process better? How can insights from social dialogue be applied throughout the BER process, including in monitoring and evaluation?
Led by moderation from the DCED Business Environment Working Group, speakers considered real-world examples from North Macedonia, Tunisia and elsewhere; participants were also able to contribute their questions and experiences.
