I love this drum tuned high, I don't even know how to describe the sound in the video but that's the sound I've always wanted! In my eyes Tama never fails to make inexpensive drums that sound so amazing, this snare drum right here is proof of that.

Man awesome channel. Already subscribed! I'm between precisely two snares you reviewed - a gretsch hammered black steel 14x8, and thisTama Slp Big Black Steel 14x8. I found a used (excelent condition) gretsch which still 42% more expensive than a new tama. Do you think the gretsch is way better worthing this difference?

That's a sweet snare drum. Certainly not your typical steel snare. I think i've found my next snare. I already have the SLP 14x7 Backbeat. This will be nice addition and a good sonic difference from the birch/bubinga.

@@drumcenternh if I'm looking for a modern metal snare (for example periphery, architects) to get a big, body full explosion sound when in studio or live micced. Would you recommend the Tama or the Machete? I know modern metal bands tend to use samples and triggers but i wonder how to get closer to that sound naturally. And Matt halpern used to use the wraith (14x5.5, so i guess more depth isn't always the answer for a big popping attack with still a big nice body explosive sound).
@drumcenternh

@@PRJohnnyT What you want is a fairly thick shelled metal snare for that sound. Honestly I would go with the Tama John Tempest signature snare. Does that sound perfectly. Matt used the Pearl Reference Brass a lot on the new record as well, so that one would do the trick as well!

@@nielsurban6392 the JJ is made by Pearl, not a fan. JJ snare isn't a 14. JJ has artwork on it. It sounds good but it does one thing. It that's the thing you're after, get the JJ. The BBS is more versitile. Sounds warmer and bigger. Usable tuning range is probably twice as much as the JJ. The fundamental note of this BBS with the matte black finish sounds like snares costing 3x as much. The Tama hoops are nearly bulletproof. The throw off is bulletproof. I'd choose this drum 100 out of 100 times over the JJ.
