Asking for money only for the new modules is a major flaw in the business model, that encourages only adding more broken crap to the mess. I'm sure, if people got the chance, many would donate to the game engine development and they would have bigger motivation to work on those things, instead of only rushing out new vehicles. It's pretty bad. Don't get me wrong, the cockpits look fantastic and, up close, other aircraft do too. When you're flying up high and/or in a formation with others, it's a very immersive and rewarding experience. It's only when you start introducing separation that you begin to notice how much work the system needs. Here's a prime example: Two nights ago I was playing with a friend and we got into a 2v2 (MiGs vs F-14s) with a couple of Fulcrums over the NTTR. Nothing complicated, just getting in some "guns only" practice with the Turkey. After I killed my bandit, I turned 180 degrees and saw the two of them on my nose maybe 3 or 4 miles away. I told him my position and he started a hard right turn into me. However, the only reason I knew friend from foe was that he came back and told me he was defensive. Keep in mind that I'm about 3 miles away and I'm SUPPOSED to be looking at a Tomcat in full planform breaking into me. Inside of 5 miles. In broad daylight. In clear weather. Yet, as close as I was, I still couldn't start to make out any real detail until we had closed with each other for several more seconds. The F-14 is a HUGE machine. I should have had no trouble at all picking out who was who as soon as I had a visual on him. Instead, they both looked like shapeless grayish black splotches on my windscreen. I can't imagine the frustration that arises from dealing with this AND trying to look through a prop at the same time.

@@jojoflyfffanThe two first major hurdles of Vietnam DCS are likely A) Dense jungle covering everything would/could result in very low performance B) Napalm is not only illegal in war, but was documented being dropped on civilians including women and children. It would be controversial, the same way flamethrowers and poison gas is in other games. If you can get past those two, you still have missions that are war crimes, controversial politics and reasons to be there, and the asymmetric slaughtering of Vietnamese people. These can't be left out really cause that is essentially what the Vietnam War was, and why its so unpopular in US history. DCS is a business and thus they have to foremost predict if they think the venture will be profitable, and if it is, would the risks of potential backlash from media, investors and the DCS community be worth it? Most companies I think would find it safer to allocate their resources in other, safer, projects. I would sell my kidneys for someone to develop a new Vietnam Era game. I've been waiting for vulkan for so long. Their engine is super old, and lags behind modern hardware. Using vulkan will not only improve VR and performance overall, (and, if done right, by a lot), but it will also make room for various modern, efficient, and high fidelity techniques and shaders. If they also implement temporal anti-aliasing, vr in dcs will be a totally different kind of beast.
@brurpo
4 жыл бұрын
@Despiser Despised maybe. Buy just the high parallelism in vulkan will make us see a lot of performance gains. Dx11 in dcs bottlenecks gpus a lot because of its high level API and single thread workload. You can run doom in dx11 and vulkan and see yourself the difference. My main concern is how long ED will take to implement it
@brurpo
4 жыл бұрын
@Despiser Despised they did, and still do on dx12, it's buggy and unstable. It creates other problems that hampers performance. But vulkan is much more stable and all the implementations that I saw had clear advantages over previous tech. I've also made shaders from dx9 to 12, opengl, ogfx and vulkan. Vulkan itself is awesome, that's what makes me hope a little bit more. Not that ED wouldn't take a long time, or fuck it up somehow, it's ED, it's just that being vulkan gives me hope.

Your complaints are my own and are shared by many, many people. I have long said, if BMS had VR I would only play DCS until I got bored mashing buttons in a cockpit. The absolute holdup on DCS is the lack of the Dynamic campaign and we have "heard" many times...that something to that effect is coming. We just have never heard anything concrete...and that is of course disconcerting. The lack of attention given to the ground aspect of DCS is also a major holdup for me. Thanks for the video. My reactions were similar to yours. These promises from ED demonstrate that they are listening after all and they plan to address our concerns. Even if they fall short on their ambitious goals for 2020 I will still be much happier with ED as long as we are seeing proof that they really are working hard to achieve all these goals. I am a little concerned about MAC pulling development resources away from DCS. Hopefully it will mostly share assets with DCS, which seems likely to be a practical approach to tying to make MAC profitable. I'm imagining MAC as being an modern day equivalent of the IL-2 series. The navigraph survey results showed much smaller numbers for IL-2 than I would have expected, but based on the trends with DCS it does seem like there's more interest in modern jets than warbirds and helicopters. I personally prefer aircraft that don't have all this fly by wire and GPS hand-holding!

DCS is no different than any other EA game I've bought into. People need to tame their expectations, or don't buy into early access. Its that simple. Among other things (like the F4U) The video fails to mention ED is targeting the end of the year for both F-16C, and F/A-18C to be feature complete. If they can get anywhere near that, that would be beyond anyone's expectations.

It really doesn't matter how much WW2 stuff DCS puts out, without FREE WW2 ground assets no one can make good missions that players without the WW2 asset can play, DCS really need to re think the whole WW2 situation in DCS as its very stale right now, this will be the same for the new free map it wont work for the current DCS WW2 situation.

As ever, a fantastic video. And 2020 sounds like an amazing year for DCS in terms of upgrades to the core engine... as did 2016... and 2014... and 2013. I've heard it all before from ED, since the likes of the buggy mess that was LOMAC. I think the tone of the video was far too optimistic, which will lead people to keep buying modules with the expectation that 2020 is the year that finally, at last, the myriad of small issues that make this game so frustrating will be resolved. If we keep believing ED's future predictions, even after a decade of broken promises, more fool us. In fact, I think we sadly have more reason to be worried than ever. Not since the release of 2.5 have we heard so many huge improvements on the way, but the actual state of recent releases suggest things have never been so bad at ED. F-16 anyone?

Hi, I don't own the game yet! But as an ex-submariner I am very interested in the submarines, and what state the mods are in. On a submarine, you have radio room, sonar room, torpedo compartment, torpedo fire control, periscope stand, quartermaster stand, diving & helm stations, ballast control panel, navigational center, missile compartment, missile fire control, and then engine compartments where you have the nuclear compartment, engine compartment. So I am wondering how detailed they are? I am assuming you can only man one station at a time.

Weight-wise, it's kind of in-between the UH-1H and the Mi-8MTV2. Both of those are great DCS modules, and IMHO, the most realistic helo flight sims I have tried, based on a single helo lesson I had IRL. Haven't tried the DCS Gazelle, and the Ka-50 feels a bit sterile (although, it has a number of autopilot systems which are probably designed for that purpose).
@quilnux
4 жыл бұрын
@@burnttoast111 I have the KA-50 (my first DCS module) and upgraded to v2. It's not bad but it took me months and months to finally get it down. Still can't get very far in battle yet tho. The Huey seems easier to fly although it seems more sluggish. But my guess is that's how the actual huey flies.
@burnttoast111
4 жыл бұрын
@@quilnux I read an article about an IRL Huey pilot testing the DCS Huey, and they only found one significant deviation. The real Huey does require some pedal input at high speeds (opposite direction from the pedal input required in hover), and this wasn't modeled in DCS. But other than that it was really good.
@quilnux
4 жыл бұрын
@@burnttoast111 yeah that sounds about right. I've watched KZitem videos of the Huey and it does seem they use a lot more pedal control at higher speeds then I do in DCS.

My thoughts are: Why don't we have a Modern Russian Jet with realistic cockpit? Su-35 would be a great addition to DCS. A fully realistic version of the SU-27 with full cockpit would also be a great addition. The US aircraft are way too over represented when it comes to modern aircraft. The Fully Realistic Cockpit F-18, F-14 and now the upcoming F-15E don't really have their DCS counterparts on the Russian Side. Regardless, DCS is getting better every year. I appreciate your NO-BULLSHIT Video. Thanks and have a great day. :)

One more thing. Anyone else out there want more cold war aircraft like the MiG-17 , SAAB Drakken, Hawker Hunter, F-4 Phantom, Specat Jaguar, F-8 Crusader, A-6 Intruder, A-7 corsair II, AH-1 Cobra & AH-64 Apache, F-100 Suber Saber, OV-10 Bronco, mirage III & F-1, Old style MiG-21's for with in older adversaries, SAAB Lancer and SU-7 / SU-17. Dont need 'em all just some planes to ballence out the miss matched era of the 60's, 70's and 80's warfare that had these aircraft in those conflicts. For the other end of the spectrum the panavia tornado, eurofighter, SAAB Grippen.

Up to 7 or 8 modules now. Started way back with the original BS. Back in the day it was Janes. DCS are the master simmers now but man do they stay in early access for a long time. Granted 3rd parties are in the mix but they need to stop jumping onto new projects. Don't get me wrong. You get a TON of value and even one plane can take months to really use correctly but It would be nice to see those checklist completed before the next bird lands.

The Viper release could have been better, but for people that really wanted to fly it, the early release was just fine. Ok, they should have given it a damage model at a minimum, since it didn't play well on multiplayer servers, otherwise I have no complaints. As far as the dynamic campaign, I still don't understand why you think that's going to be so awesome. It's going to be predictable in its own way. I kind of prefer the mission approach. People are going to be more inventive than a dynamic campaign ever will. Not sure what your requirements for this dynamic campaign really are, but I will bet it doesn't live up to expectations. I've seen feature lists like this before on many projects. If they come through with half of it, that would be about par for the course. Programmers always overestimate. Glad to see there are plans anyway!

With the Viper, I spent hours banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to Jettison the fuel tanks. After a while, I realized jettison was broken. I wondered what else would be broken and would just make me waste hours of troubleshooting. Went back to fly anything else. My experience with the release of the JF-17 was absolutely amazing! And that is another aircraft I was truly not interested in. Even less so than the Viper. Regarding the Dynamic Campaign. I just like being able to launch the sim, set up a couple of parameters, and do missions with my friends, as I am able to in Falcon BMS. It is always different, can adjust to my necessities at that moment, and always fun in my opinion. If DCS could at least pull a Dynamic Campaing in the level of BMS, I am satisfied. In my opinoin, DCS feels repetitive and boring against BMS on multiplayer or single player missions. Of course, not all of the goals will be achieved this year (Or ever). But as long as they keep on that path, delivering in a constant pase. I am ok with it.

DCS Flaming Cliffs for my Jet Addiction, Il2 Great Battles for my War Birds Addiction. Love fighting the Eastern Front and those VVS rides. I am not much into system study but do want Aircraft Specific Models and Weapons but are accessible in VR with Hotas. If you want War Birds with great weather and combat - Il2 is the ticket. Both Sims need core engine upgrades and Vulcan is a good path. Want my 12 core CPU utilised which should bring great benefits in flight modelling, AI, Physics, Weather and hopefully scale to hardware resources as available. MAC might be my ticket - update the Russian rides and as much as I love flying the Mig 29, god I wish I could land the thing without feeling like a Trampoline Ace.

they have gone downhill a little to me: too much early access and unfinished/rushed work removes the platforms once polished feel where it felt like they only released quality. and now a carrier dlc that has the potential to split the multiplayer base and is damn expensive for a boat. they locked the thread in steam since they were losing the chat war. ps: the moment you say "its not that bad" you need to rethink what you spend money on.
