I recall listing to a F86 pilot that flew with him in 1953. He did not talk a lot about Jabara but what he did say was that he was a great pilot but a arrogate bastard, but I guess so would we all if we shot down that many Mig´s. Not direct quote but the basics of it.

I don't think so 😁 But there was an incident in 1980s I think where a British Phantom on a practice intercept of a Jaguar forgot to put the master arm to off and launched a real missile which shot the Jaguar down. They actually painted a Jaguar kill silhouette on the Phantom! That's British humor for you 😁 😁

@@showtime112 YEs , scene takes place in Germany near Bruggen in 25 may 1982. phanthom fromSq92 shot down with sidewinder a Sq 14 jaguar Gr1. Master armament switches are not on SAFE. Phantom crew go to court martial. Fortunately Jaguar pilot eject safely; On KZitem there is a report about this ... incident; good videos mate. Friendly from south of France BZR/LFMU

I'm Not an Expert by Any Means, but I use to have the flight simulator Mig Alley. A Korean War Aircraft sim. I find it Difficult to believe, that someone, couldn't tell, from that distance, the difference between a Mig-15 and a F-86.

One of few times a F86 pilot was happy they only had 6 .50 guns not 20 mm cannons. Also I would not be surprised that when the other pilot radioed that he was the target, that it was not so calm and polite :)

There was a "hot pursuit" exception for US pilots to cross the Yalu; frequently abused. Jabara should have had a U.S. flag painted on his jet: he actually shot down 16.

Did he count that kill in his total, lol! There was an instance where a blue on blue shoot down was credited in WW2 as it kept the American crew from landing on a hostile airfield. And saved the crew.

Many thanks Showtime, pls bring more. Also, I was thinking if it was possible to sometimes make a video of a hypothetical scenario of an air battle. Perhaps what air clashes between NATO and Warsaw Pact forces would look like during the Cold War if it went warmer? Anyway, many thanks again and looking forward to another lesson from modern history of warfare.

Well, apart from him having a certain personality and this incident, he was still a successful fighter pilot and the first American jet ace. I will have to make a video about some of his successful combat action as a counterweight to this one :)

Well, it was unlikely to happen. Not just because he was a successful ace. A trial would have revealed that UN aircraft were regularly entering Chinese airspace. Calling it an awkward situation would be a huge understatement. Plus, no life was lost.

Well, I would say he was extremely ambitious and everything else was secondary to him. I think this was indeed a mistake (which most other pilots probably wouldn't have made) R&R wasn't really a reward, he was against it. It was more an attempt to cover up the incident by keeping him away from the media.

Yes, i read he let his teenage daughter drive and she lost control while they were travelling over some construction in the road and she lost control of the car. James was riding in the back seat. They both died. Sad.

From a computer simulation point of view, that seems impossible. You can never recognize much detail, you are lucky if you can identify the type of the aircraft you see. But in their accounts, real pilots report being able to see much more detail. For example the type of helmet their opponent was wearing. It is possible that Lt Frailey saw Jabara approaching their formation and maybe thought he was going to join up. He might have turned his head and realized this was the same Sabre.
Some of them are a bit doubtful but officially, he is one of the most successful aces of the conflict.

It's more than just that. The picture of the world we see in our minds is not just a raw input from our eyes. This input is filtered, compressed etc so the picture we see is very subjective. Jabara was aggressive and hungry for kills, he saw fighters arriving from China, in his mind those were MiGs.

Thanks for the comment. The music is supposed to be big band swing style which was still very popular in early '50s. All the original recordings seem to be copyrighted, I tried. Not just guys like Benny Goodman but completely forgotten names too. So I thought this might still be close enough for that period vibe.

I already wrote it in another comment but most people don't realize that the image of the world around us is not just raw and objective input from our eyes, but a highly processed and filtered presentation. That's why those two F-15 pilots saw Blackhawks over Northern Iraq in 1994 but VID-ed them as Hinds. and killed 26 of their compatriots and other allies.

There actually were some sort of IFF transmitters but it was used so that friendly radars could track them from the ground. Sabres had no way to identify another aircraft other than visually.

@@haedubabaganush Maybe he did move somewhat but that's very hard to achieve in DCS. He probably thought Jabara would stop shooting once he called him over the radio. And in fact, the whole thing lasted just a few seconds but here it's repeated from several angles so it seems much longer.

This isn't slandering, it's simply a reenactment of an event described in various historic sources. This doesn't mean that Jabara wasn't one of the most successful aces in Korea. I intend to do a video covering one of his MiG killing missions in the future.
