If you’re going with LGA 1700 i3s or i5s, by the time you start to consider an upgrade, there will probably be better options on new platforms if your focus is gaming performance. That means it’s less likely for people to just by an overpriced old i7s or i9s down the line. Therefore, getting DDR5 kits for “future proofing” can be less economical.

I have the same doubt whether to go for ddr4 or ddr5. One more thing is important - motherboards that support ddr5 are much more expensive than ddr4, especially if we're talking about higher quality ones. I think the most important thing right now is to go for a new socket (AM5 or LGA 1700), because the current gen will still be supported. Intel changes sockets more often, while AM5 should be ok for a few more years. By then, the price of both ddr5 motherboards and RAM will drop.

Build a system for a specific resolution & monitor play Hz & use whatever hardware can achieve good performance at that level for a price that you can stomach. Then, you never have to upgrade the PC, assuming that you play within those build parameters.

I'd rather go for ddr4 32gb 4000mhz which is under $100 on Amazon. Last I checked it was $80

Something cool that happens where I live is that Xfx officially resells refurbished cards such as rx 5700xt and rx6600xt for 449 Aed for the 5700xt and 650 for rx6600xt and they are basically unsold models brand new sealed cuz no one buys them here 😅

DDR5 has really good prices now, so I wouldn't bother to buy a DDR4 config, if we are talking about building a new config. But you can get a Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB ram, B450 mb, case, power supply for around 200$, which is also an option. 200$ for a pc like that ain't bad at all.

$200 IF you buy pre-owned. You ain't getting all that for $200 brand new no matter which way you look at it. Even with sales that's a push. Don't spread cap

Had to get a new motherboard to get full advantage of my m.2, my 2018 motherboard was pcie 3.0, ddr4, no built in wifi and couldnt use current cpu’s. Now i got got a pcie 5.0 slot for m.2 and 2 pcie 4.0s and DDR5 and built in wifi 6E much needed.

He’s saying this because it’s easier (price wise) for him to get im on DDR4 and it runs smooth. It’s really down to your Ram (16gb and up) GPU especially and at least intel I6 and up
